When I'm decoding to avi (VirtualDub) or mpg (TMPGEnc Plus) I have to set the bitrate to 1500 or higher to get a good result. Even with DivX...
And all my files ar now 1.5 GB to 2.3 GB...
On the net I find 2h movies with good quality at only 7-800.000 MB.
Am I using the wrong codec or are my settings wrong...
Help?

how long are the files you are trying to encode? using the dvdrhelp bitrate calculator, a movie thats 1 hr 30mins can be sized down to 750MB with 128kbps audio and a video bitrate of 1026, encoded with divx. so the movies you find on the net must be lower than 1000.
