the quality can be as loose as you want .... i prefer it tighter myself , but to each thier own ...

no idea what you mean about renaming stuff though ... nothing to do with quality and you can use dos/windows/linux/osx/whatever to rename the files to anything you want ..

Hi , what i mean by renaming is a right click on the .VRO file and "rename" and i change the extention .VRO to .VOB , so i won't loose any quality doing that ??

Because i try to find a tool who can convert .VRO to .VOB and i don't find ( i found tool who can work dvd-ram with .VRO but that not what i search now )

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a .VRO? No matter, like BJ_M says, renaming a file wont affect its content, hence not the quality.

  6. @lupio:

You cannot simply rename the VRO files to VOB and get a DVD out of it. Try a DVD authoring program TMPGEnc DVD Author, which has a function Add DVD Video. It will allow you to create a standard DVD that would play in a regular standalone player. You won't lose any quality.

In fact what i wanted to do with this renaming .VRO to .VOB was to then convert that .vob file to .mpeg2 ( with mpeg-vcr ) and be able to make my dvd with Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3 , i tested some software to make dvd with chapter and all and Ulead DVD Movie Factory was the most easy and fun for me to make dvd :P

The only programs that accept VRO (that I know of) are TDA and Womble mpeg video wizard. Womble will output an mpeg that you can then author with Ulead or any other program. No conversion, no quality loss. 30 day trial available.

Ulead Moviestudio can import vro files directly. Use the import dvd video option and select the RTAV file the vro is in. Windows has a quirk about reading vro files however, so you may only get the first 10 minutes of video to import. If this happens you will first have to extract the files to hard disc using isobuster. extract both files from the RTAV on your dvdrw/dvdram to a folder on hard disc named RTAV for ulead to recognize.
    Hope this helps.

I believe ZippyP is referring to TMPGEnc DVD Author (TDA) can be found in tools dvd author section. I have both TDA and Ulead Moviefactory (I mistakenly typed moviestudio in my prior post, sorry) and they both can import vro files, but both may require isobuster to fully extract the video.

If you use ulead MF 2 like I do you can rename the VRO as MPG and it will skip the import/capture step. saves a ton of time. also if you rename it MPG you can use dvdpatcher to flag it as anamorphic 16:9 if you have the need.

You are better off (as in SAFE) using a program that can import the VRO directly rather than trying to trick a program by renaming the .VRO to .VOB

Doing the renaming thing is a "trick" that could have a bad side effect.

Lupio - I have renamed VRO files to MPG and they play pretty well with some media players on my computer. That said, if you have MovieFactory3, that's all you need. One of the selling points to me in upgrading to MovieFactory3 was the added ability to import DVD-RAM files directly into your project. You can grab them off the disk or off your hard drive. If you recorded these files on a Panasonic DVD recorder, for example, and you have multiple recordings or sessions in one VRO file, MovieFactory3 will find each individual file that you can give a separate menu item. Load up MovieFactory3, select "Create Video Disk", select DVD as the type of video project, put a DVD-RAM disk into your drive, click on the "DVD" button to import files from a DVD, select your drive, and then the program will show you what you have on the disk.

    Hope that helps.

Well Ulead Movie Factory 3 is just one of a many DVD authoring programs that can import a DVD-RAM aka VRO

For instance TMPGEnc DVD Author can also do this and I believe that Womble MPEG-VCR can also do it.

Yes ! my mistake was when i have to "add media" to choose add video file rather then add dvd ( i thought dvd-ram didn't work for MovieFactory3 ) , so now i have all sequencesq i recorded but he say he cannot work with the Dolby Digital audio track , i miss a plugin on my pc or it's really Ulead MovieFactory3 who cannot work with Dolby Digital ?

About TMPGEnc DVD Author (TDA) i tested it but i prefer MovieFactory3

TMPGEnc DVD Author can import DVD-RAM with AC-3 audio and you can even do some simple editing as well ... all without any problems due to the AC-3 audio.

I know the old Ulead Movie Factory 2 could work with AC-3 but you couldn't edit if you were using AC-3

    Don't know about MF3 though ...
