grabbing clips

hi would anyone point me in the right direction ,iam trying to capture a clip from a movie using my dvd rom drive, is it possible?need software? ,quality suitable for mailing via net ,many thanks

If you rip with a freeware program like DVD Shrink, then you can use Virtual Dub to cut what scene you want from the VOBs to AVI. Then convert them to mpeg or wmv. You can then decide if the quality and size warrants emailing through the 'Net.
