I have a load of video footage on my hard drive that I intend to burn to DVD when I eventually figure out how to stop getting choppy footage. I,ve asked and asked but I just can't get the footage to stop breaking up. I,ve had the bit rate up to 8000 and down to 3000 but for the life of me I can't get it right. I've used Ulead stuff, Pinnacle 8, TMPGEnc and windows movie maker 2. But still I get choppy video.
Anyway, I,ve managed to get myself a virus that is causing me a few problems so I was considering reformatting my PC. The only problem being all this video footage (currently about 73GB worth) Does anyone have Any Ideas what I can do with it while I reformat my PC.
I don't have another Hard drive that I could store it on.
Many thanks in advance.

another hard drive, or burning the files to cd/dvd are pretty much your only options. maybe you can just re-install windows without reformatting and see if that gets rid of the virus.
as for your problem, what media are you using? choppy video is usually a problem with cheap media. is the footage bad on your computer before you burn? if its not, then its definetly a media problem. -
Get your self another HD. Use Norton Ghost to backup you c: drive to the othe HD.
By the way dont backup the virus. -
Is this a good place and time to advise everyone that they should fdisk and partition their drive to have a 10 gig or so C:\ drive and do as they wish with the rest?
Had you done so, simply format C and re-install. All your files would be safe on the larger partitions.
For those who do not wish to fdisk, if you can't afford partition magic, or just don't want to buy it, try Ranisch Partition Manager, free, last time I checked.
Will Hay, this would have helped you with your recent problem, too.
Cheers,
George
PS; be kind of hard to Ghost without ghosting the virus, no? If you clean the virus, no need to Ghost, right this moment, if you haven't, it goes to the Ghost image. -
Just out of curiosity why can't u get rid off the virus? would it not be easier to remove your virus than reformat your pc?

If you have to reformat then like sitlet said, burn it or buy another HD and transfer it.
On a different note, if you are only using one hard drive that will sometimes give you choppy video because you are reading and writing to the same disc and there has to be a give and take reading and writing to the same IDE channel.
