Is there a DVD Recorder with HDD that records to DVD+RW?

I have a disc drive with my desktop which only supports DVD+ and have only been able to found DVD Recorders that support DVD-R/RW & DVD - RAM with a 80GB HDD and none that support +. This I want because I may want to edit footage recorded from the TV? The only way I can think of around it would be to attach some kind of cables from the Recorder's HD to the PC HD and then try and edit it once downloaded, which I also have never done, so for this. what codecs & settings would I use for TV footage? Would luv to hear from you if you anyone can help. Thanks

Time to buy a new DVD burner!

Actually my guess is you can probably RIP the DVD-RW even though you only have a DVD+R/RW burner.

Then you can erase and reuse the DVD-RW using the stand alone DVD recorder.

Or for about $30 to $40 you can buy a DVD-ROM that reads DVD-RAM discs.

P.S.
Your DVD+R/RW burner can only burn +R/RW discs but chances are it will read a DVD-RW for the purpose of ripping it to your HDD.

BTW I think the format compatiblity issues are overrated unless you have a really old DVD player. And in my case I can use the computer Sony DVD burner to quickly onvert..

I think APEX was working on one. But do not know if it was DVD+RW there last DVD recorder was DVD+RW.

I never knew a writer that didn't read both +r & -r. If yours is +r it must mean it just writes that format. Should read -r fine. what does the manual that came with it say? What model is it?

No it's not a writer/burner I am actually looking for, it's a DVD Recorder/Player for recording TV programmes and downloading them from its built-in HD or compatible DVD module onto a PC then editing it in order to burn it back onto a dvd+rw for later viewing.

We are saying that your computer based DVD Burner should be able to read DVD-R or DVD-RW discs even if your DVD Burner is a DVD+R/+RW only model. A computer DVD Burner that is DVD+R/+RW only simply means that it can only burn to DVD+R or DVD+RW discs. That burning capability (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with READING ability.

Sorry it was an oversight I was half asleep. I will still need to edit it though, so will that mean somehow I will have to rip it with some kind of tool as mentioned earlier by s.o. else, do the necessary editing and then burn it onto my dvd+ compatible disc?

I was thinking of going for the JVC DVD Recorder/Player with a HDD 160GB records to DVD-RAM, DVD-RW/R. That way I would have 2 Options of getting my footage onto the PC, I hope. Would u recommend this model? There is supposed to be a Sony coming out in October with 250GB and records to both +/- but it's just speculation and I can't wait until then.

Ur PC wont read dvdram. ecost has a sharp with 80gig HD for $389, reg $800. might be instock.

Some DVD authoring programs can import straight from a DVD disc be it a DVD-R or DVD-RW or DVD+R or DVD+RW or DVD-RAM

However DVD-RAM seems to be the preferred format for this.

Please note that if you don't currently have DVD-RAM reading capabilities on your computer you can buy a cheap DVD-ROM drive that reads DVD-RAM for around $30 to $40

That is what I would do.

I have since purchased my DVD Recorder and have recorded some photoslides in DVD VR format and have tried to view them on my built in DVD+ writer and the drive is showing as empty. Where am I going wrong?

If the drive is empty, the disc needs some sort of "finalize" done on it.

I have finalised my Packard Bell DVD-RW (VR mode) for read only with my DVD Recorder put it in my DVD+RW built-in burner, tried to open the disc and it is showing 0 bytes completely empty. Any other suggestions. Should it definitely read? Could my OS be overloaded or some type of bug? Could those be the reasons?

I think the reason why it won't read even though I've finalised it is because it was formatted in (VR Mode) and only Video Mode is compatible with my DVD+ Combo Drive. The idea was to somehow rip it and convert it with some assistance on how to do so to Video Mode as I cannot do so with my JVC HDD DVD recorder.
