Hi,
I am trying to reformat computer using the winXP cd. I want all the files on the hard drive deleted also. When I try to use the cd to reformat and delete all the files on that drive going through all the options and steps, I must being picking the wrong options in the winXP profession setup because it loads winxp it looks like a new copy, however, when the hard drive is loaded all the files are still there and the only thing that is pretty much deleted are the desktop icons.
How do I tell the winXP cd to delete all the files on the hard drive also? Please and thank you.

When you first load the CD, the setup program asks which partition you wish to use to install Windows XP.
Choose the partition (C. Then it tells you NTFS is already installed on this partition - do you want to leave the file system as is or reformat?
Choose reformat - it will completely erase your hard disk
Your mistake is probably choosing to keep the existing file system.
Cheers
