  1. I'm really having a hard time trying to play some dvd-r movie backups that I burned using Nero and CloneDVD and a few other programs... All I get when trying to boot the movie is "Disc Read Error". I have cleaned my PS2s laser, adjusted and tested the laser in all positions, and I have adjusted the voltage on the cd and the dvd parts of the laser, with no avail! I still cannot play a dvd-r movie on my PS2. One thing I haven't tried, is burning the movie under 4x speed. Will that help? I burned all of these dvds at 4x, because I thought everything could read a dvd burned at 4x! Please help!!!!!

yeah cheap media will do it. use better quality media. if -r doesnt work try +r, depends on the year but some ps2's are picky. or ps1 games? originals or backups?

  4. If you ps2 has a mod chip that could be where your problem is. In order to play any movie backed up or original you have to disable the modchip. Older mods don't have this ability, but the newer ones you can turn off by holding in the power button.

With my modded ps2 in order to play ps1 games I have to hit the power button twice in order them to work. I have only done that with backed up copies of ps1 games but would imagine that its the same for originals too.

And if you don't have a mod chip this reply is probably worthless.

If 4X won't work, try 2X, then 1X if 2X doesn't work. Also it could just be the discs, some PS2's won't read certain discs. What mod do you have in your PS2? Also, what version is your PS2?

    No you don't.

However, some mod chips have a booting sequence to follow for them.

Try some other media. Ritek Go3 or Taiyo. I saw on meritline you can get 2 riteks with free shipping for $3.95 to test.

  9. Well I guess I mispoke before. I did some looking around and saw there are now mod chips that will directly boot to dvd9 and psx. I have a Mars-II and I do have to disable the mod chip to play movies. I have a couple of friends with older mod chips than that version that can't play movies at all.

Although handyguy might chime in here and tell me I'm wrong again I've heard that ps2s will not read +r format. I don't know what you're burning on but if you're burning on them that could be the problem.

Some PS2 depending on the year and/or model with play either -R or +R's, I understand that untouchableflowz does not have a mod chip, but from me putting some mod chips in diffrent PS2, I have noticed that.

    1. Mine loves the +R's, will play a few -R(but will act funny with them)
    2. friend, his PS2 Loves the -R's(he wont even try the +R's to see)
    3. Another friend plays both -R's and +R's no problem.

The friend that uses the -R's, he uses the cheapiest of disk

Me, I use Verbatim and Maxell +R's, Everything loads up fast and perfect..

  11. I used to mod a ps2 forum, anyway,
    For games use: -r
For films use: -r or +r

If you have one of those new ps2s v9+, you should be able to use +r for games, but any version should be able to use -r for games. Use Ritek or Ty media, write at no more than 2x. You might be able to use other media, I myself use Accus but they take a few tries.

Also, the ps2 has a dvd diag menu, used to get dvds to play. I haven't used it so I forgot how to get it.

Also, the ps2, when you are playing a dvd flick, push setup, there you can adjust sharpness to +2 ....who would have thought you could do this on a ps2?
