  1. I am trying to convert svcd movies into a dvd-r, but my files that I removed from the mpeg folder are in mpeg extensions and I need to change them to .dat extensions. I am sure it is an easy process, but just right clicking on the file and renaming the file doesnt change the ext. How do I fix this? Thanks

I don't think you are following the correct process for SVCD to DVD conversion. A *.dat is an mpeg1 on a VCD disk, while an mpeg2 on an SVCD has the extension *.mpg. You do not normally need to change the extension in order to convert from SVCD to DVD. Are you following a guide?

I suggest you search the guides under format conversion - SVCD to DVD. You will get quite a list but there are two basic methods:

-One method takes the SVCD video as-is and puts it on a DVD. This method is fast but because SVCD video is not DVD compliant, it creates a DVD that will not be compatible with a wide variety of DVD players.

-The second method will re-encode the video so that it becomes DVD compliant.

    Good luck.

  3. I am using this guide:

    http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=othertodvd&name=tmpegencvcdtodvd

But I have vcd and svcd movies and the svcd has 4 folders in it, but my computer is recognizing this file as a mpeg.

Sounds like you need to make XP display the file extensions. Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View and then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types."

  5. Perfect, you nailed it. I do have XP and I changed that setting and it allowed me to see and change the ext. Thanks again.
