I've been burning DVD movies flawlessly on my desktop for years. Recently I purchased a Athlon 64 3200+ laptop with a liteon DVD burner. I ripped and burned a movie only to find that on topset playback, the movie would pause, and show a scrambled (digital blocks) every 30 seconds or so (not at regular intervals). I upgraded the memory to 1.25GB, and installed a 7200rpm HD to speed things up. I installed the latest verson of NERO. I tried again to find that things were better than before (same movie LOTR), but the problems are still there (just not as often). I decided to turn off the generic write contro in NERO and tested again. I thought it was a perfect burn, but about 45 minutes inot the movie, the errors returned.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I forgot to mention that DMA is turned on for all drives. The new HD (Hitachi Travelstar7k60 w/8mb cache) is markedly faster than the stock Hitachi Travelstar 4200rpm drive. The buffer level never drops below 96% while burning. If it's not a problem with the burner it's self, then I don't have a clue what to try next.
Any suggestions appriciated.
Thanks,
-crjackson

what software besides NERO are you using to back up your dvd movies?
try dvd decypter and dvd shrink then burn with nero or img tool burn -
I use smartripper, and then dvd2one 1.40. The same system/movie works flawlessly on my desktop system.

Looks like I'm on my own with this one. I guess it's just another unsolved mystery.

Curious...what interface are you using to connect the burner to your laptop?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
It's the IDE interface. It's an internal drive. However I'm happy to report that I'm now making flawless burns (2 so far). I bought some DVD+R media (4x Maxell) and at 2.4x burns, with externad HD as source, it's now working perfect. I suspect the drive is better with DVD+R than it is with DVD-R. However, I will try a different brand of DVD-R to see if it was the particular media, or the particular format.
