  1. I am a computor novice, espicially when it comes to video and editing. I am currently working on a skateboarding film, and my mate copies my hi8 tapes onto DVD using his capture device. From there i get the data and edit it on Windows Movie Maker. But the trouble is, that the latest DVD he did for me doesn't work. It is saved as .mpg (if that makes any difference).

When i try to import the file onto WMM it works.......but comes up as a audio file. This means i can only put the file into thte audio section on the storyboard.

The same happens when i try to put it onto Ulead Studio 6. It says- "That file has no video data". And it does (else it wouldnt be 2.39 gig!)

But what is confusing is that it plays as video on Windows Media Player. So i am really confused/annoyed and sick of all the problems i am getting. So please can somebody tell me how to get it working (without having to get it re-burnt)

i dont think windows movie maker can import mpeg2 video files ..

load the file into virtualdubmod and convert it to dv (install panasonic dv codec) is one option

Maybe digital video isn't for you. There's rarely anything "easy" about it.

  6. BJ_M and TeeGee, I admire your restraint

rankz, you said right off you were a beginner. It may be in your own best interest to listen to the people here, that have been doing this sort of thing for awhile. Don't pass off ANY software as rubbish, unless YOU have tried it, and then you're entitled to your opinion.

I would do exactly as BJ_M has suggested, then you can import the avi into WMM, and do as you like. Next time, remember to inform your mate that you can only work with avi's
