  1. a few weeks ago, there was a link going around about memorex offering to shitty quality discs (CMC).. i filled out a form complaining about the quality of their dvd-r discs.. i completely forgot about it.. i checked my mail today and there was a box from memorex.. a 50 pack of 4x dvd-r's.. how about that?

i'm pretty surprised.. i havent opened them yet.. i'm thinking about taking them to walmart and getting store credit for them

that would be sweet - you've gotta do it now.

i dont see why they would.. i purchased 40 memorex discs, NONE of them worked right.. half of them failed while burning, the other half were either unplayable or had massive errors.. i was ripped off.. espeically with the media prices at that time!! a perfect example of this is... i burned a copy of nba live 2003 for PS2 (i had a v7.. ie- strong laser).. the disc would take FOREVER to load, or just not load at all.. it was terrible.. so i got a verbatim disc (ritek g03), ripped a disc image of the memorex dvd-r (w/ dvddecrypter) and then burned it on to the g03.. it worked perfectly..

and i'm telling ya, i could tell you if a disc was bad before i even burned it.. a HUGE problem they were having was improperly bonding the layers.. you could hold the disc up to your ear and slightly flex the disc.. if you heard a creeking sound, then you knew it would fail.

memorex is getting off easy, i'm surprised there isnt a class action lawsuit against them.

True. And that would make the ass-kicking even more enjoyable.

Sounds like a Princo. We have some old Princo at work. When ever we get a coaster. I'll split the disk in half. And before you question the Princos at work, they were purchased before I starting working here. Now we use them for short term testing, Riteks for better stuff.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

    Thanks Conquest10

I'm also in the -not so popular- Digital TV forum section. My main job there, is to move topics in and out

Offline, alkyonides days are on January! There is full summer here now.

Regarding my girlfriend: Having her in a beach with hundred of other girls, all free, is a problem.

  19. figures this would happen to someone else other then me. I must of had vodoo put on me or something. Got the worst luck with media, and even something like this. I did the same exact thing. Filled out that form and probably had the same mentality as you which is "what have I got to lose?"

I filled in my name, address, phone number, description of the problem with the CMC disks even explained that I was aware of Ricoh vs. CMC and there was definitely a quality difference between the two. Said I hope Memorex does the fair and right thing and replaces the disks I am out which was about 30 out of 50. Probably was more but I was conservative and hoped that i'd be the one who had a suprise in the days or weeks to come with a box from Memorex. Haven't gotten a thing and that's no surprise.

If I won the Lottery tomorrow as soon as I saw & realized I was a winner, a lightning bolt would zap through my window and shock me to death. But that wouldn't be good enough. Then my worst enemy would break into my place because they'd think I was out of town and then they'd get a two for one. Me gone and my lottery ticket still in full tact. Then they'd live happily ever after. So sad.

  20. well HOLY SHIT is right! I think I better play the lottery now. Maybe my luck is starting to change. I just got home from lunch and saw a package at my door. I saw the top of it said from memorex products from Ontario, CA. I was like oh shit! So I opened it up and what did I see? Not only ONE 50 pack of DVD+R 4X disks, but 2! 2 Fifty pack spindles! But wait, it gets even better! In that email I sent to them I told them I didn't like the -R's because of the CMC manufacturing so i'm sure that's why they sent the +R's, but when I checked the media id of these Memorex DVD+R's it said RITEK! And the dye looks super clean. I didn't even know Ritek manufactured 4x+R disks for Memorex. I read that they did for Ricoh with the Ricoh media id and i've bought some of those in the past. But this media id is:

    Physical Format Information (ADIP):
    Disc ID: RITEK-R02-01
    Book Type: DVD+R
    Part Version: 1
    Disc Size: 120mm
    Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
    Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
    Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
    Track Density: 0.74 um/track

I am thrilled. Can't wait to burn some of these. Memorex really did the right thing here. I'll definitely be loyal to Memorex with service like this. Also looks like we'll have another choice for their +R's from now on with a Ritek media id, in addition to Ricoh and CMC.

Is anyone else here surprised Princo hasn't gone out of business yet? Are there still money conscious women out there buying this crap for their kids, who in turn are just using them to protect the wood furniture from getting water stains and target practice. I have a couple of Princo coasters from a friend I have hung on the wall just for light reflection. I agree with Cap, Princo's are really useful media, but not for burning anything.

What's strange is that I was happy with them for almost 2 years - the white-tops, not the logo blanks. Then all of a sudden I couldn't get a good burn with them on the PC burner or the Panny standalone. I'll bet they cut out something in a money-saving effort - like the dye

The last 200 of them I bought had about 15 good ones - no kidding
