My first attempt to back up only the main movie on a dvd using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink produced otherwise compliant DVD files at 9800 kbps not leaving enough for audio.
How do I get that down?

When you do a re-author in DVD shrink as long as you have the audio stream you want selected it will leave enough room for it and include it in the encoding.

I did that and it did leave enough room. But after a test burn to a -RW did not play, I brought the DVD files into TMPMG DVD Author and it gave the warning that the video bitrate was 9800 and the audio was 192 (AC3), exceeding the maximum total of 9848. The overall size is OK.Originally Posted by jeremyp969
I quess instead of compressing with DVD shrink I could change the VOB extension to MPG and reencode in TMPGEnc, but that will take a long time.
Like I said, this is my first attempt so I don't have any experience to compare it to. -
TmpGenc DVDA only looks at the mpeg header to determine the bitrate. Many encoders set this to 9800 as this is the max allowed for DVD, even when the actual bitrate within the mpeg is much lower. Open the mpeg/vob file in bitrate viewer to see the actual bitrate used. Chances are the bitrate is fine and TmpGenc DVDA is being picky. If so skip the warning from TmpGenc (it is only a warning, not a fatal error) and author/burn anyway.Originally Posted by ajc53
