  1. Hey all!

I am trying to convert a dvd of mine to Xvid for storage on my hard drive. I am testing out a number of different programs to see which I like the best.

When using AutoGK, in the advanced settings, I am able to change the resolution (width only). No matter what resolution width value I choose, or option (Auto,Minimum,Fixed) I get the same problem in the end.

The problem is the top and bottom of the movie is cut off. It is not as if the movie (which is fullscreen) is being viewed in widescreen. It's literally the top and bottom of the movie is missing! As if AutoGK is cropping the top and bottom of the movie, leaving me with scenes that have people's heads chopped off...

Very strange. Don't know how to fix.

  2. I'm having the exact same problem trying to backup the Fifth Element. I think it may have happened on other movies but it's hard to tell on some of them. I tried ripping with both Smartripper and DVDDecryptor and I'm encoding with autogk. I've tried several variations on a couple of different PCs with exactly the same results.

Anybody have any ideas what's doing this?

  3. Its choosing the resolution of 640x400 instead of 640X480.

Some dvds work and some don't... i just want to know why this particular dvd doesnt work.

There are 6 dvds in the set and 3 of them have this problem with autogk while the other 3 are fine. Really strange.

I've only used GORDIAN KNOT without the AutoGK thing (I mean GORDIAN KNOT is already a GUI to begin with how much simpler do you need it?).

    I suggest not using AutoGK

Also if you have a 4:3 full frame DVD video the proper MPEG-4 full screen resolution is 640x480 so I don't know where you are getting 640x400

    P.S.
If you insist on using AutoGK then keep this in mind ... both GORDIAN KNOT and AutoGK are constantly being updated and developed. The problem you are having could be the result of using a version of AutoGK that isn't for the version of GORDIAN KNOT that you have.

  5. I have the same problem, but confusingly it's not confined to specific discs, but to a specific episode! I'm converting a rip of Deadwood series 3 to AVI's, and all episodes converted perfectly to 720x400... Except episode 7 which crops both height AND width to leave me with a 720x464 resolution. I've tried changing the width, but the result is always similarly cropped.

  6. Disable the auto crop option.
