Not sure if there is a program that will accept a DV data stream from a 1394 Firewire card and convert on the fly to Divx. If it did, may be very CPU intensive. However, you can convert the DV file once it's on your computer to Divx using several programs, including Virtualdub if you have a DV codec installed, such as the Panasonic DV codec.
Edit: I use the Mainconcept encoder to convert the DV stream on the fly to MPEG2, and I see Divx as one of the format options. It works well with MPEG2 for me, but I have never tried Divx conversion with that setup. -
I made my own firewire capture realtime encoder some years ago, i had a P III 850 that time, laptop with very small harddisk, it had no problems encoding to WMV in VCD resolution on the fly. If you find a program that can do it, then you should be able to do it with a modern CPU, even at high resolution. Btw, there seemed to be a problem for me getting the sound over the firewire, so i connected the analog sound output to the microphone input on the laptop. Its just an emergency solution in my opinion, if your got enough harddrive space you will be much better off to move the DV to the harddrive first.
