  1. I got a MiniDV cam and it has analog inputs (and supports passthru) so to transfer my stock of VHS-C tapes I figured this is the best approach.

Problem is, I'm not sure how to set the Field order. Since I need to do some decent ammount of editing, I will be capturing in AVI, then after editing convert to MPEG2.

I have Ulead VS 7 SE. I'm contemplating about VS 8. But here's my confusion on field order.

From what I found, for DV material, I should set VS7 to Field Order A. VS8 would be Lower Field. Interestingly enough, tmpgenc calls this Bottom Field First (Field B).

Analog capture (via TV Capture card) would be the opposite. That is, for VS7 Field Order B, VS8 Upper Field (and tmpgenc Top Field First (Field A)).

But, when you do passthru, which one should I set it to ? DV capture settings or Analog capture settings ?

    TIA...

Ive found that it doesnt matter what you set the capture up for in mediastudio. I had it set up to capture top field, bottom field and it always captures in bottom field. Dont let this issue worry you, just go and capture it. It should capture bottom field.
