  1. howdy,
I've been trying to backup my x-files season sets, I've had no problems except for season 3 disk 2. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or do I just have a bad disk? I don't know anyone with this set, so i can't test it, with another copy of the disk, for myself. I've tried dvdbackup & Mac the Ripper, the new public version with force read, but to no success. it just gets stuck on the same file each time, when I don't use force read it says there's some sort of error, with force read, it just continually scans (it's been going over a half hour now!)and doesn't seem to do anything. can anyond help?

Try cleaning the DVD, wiping from the center outwards, or find another copy it. ForceRead mode will keep trying forever until it either gets the data, burns out your drive, or you cancel it.

Since you brought it up, we all have expenses.

Is it absolutely impossible to skip ONE (beer/soda/cigarette/latte/pizza/or unit of vice of choice) and offer the equivalent as a token of your appreciation?

honestly, i would like to contribute, but right now i don't even have enough money to pay for tuition, it may come to me having to take a year off school. so it's not a matter of skipping one vice, as you put it, i can't afford the vices of choice, and before you probably quote it, the only reason that i have the blank dvds is because i bought them over a year ago, when i had cash.
so should i come up with tuition money then i will contribute, but frankly my education is going to come first before any software, or vice.

  6. Ladd , there is a great distance between the "woulds" and the "do's"

But you just need to know that you are on the higher plane!!

so geezerbuttz, you think that Ladd is better then me or as you put it "on the higher plane"?
who are you to judge? you've put a program on the net for free, then are shocked and angered when people don't reward you for it. if you wanted money for it, then there's a simple solution to that: charge users initially. But oh wait, since your software violates the Millennium New Media Copyright act, you'd be a criminal. So instead you soliciate via guilt tactics and peer pressure to have users "donate" to your oh so worthy cause. But you know what? What you're doing also has a name: Extortion. Disagree? well here's the dictionary.com defination: " To obtain from another by coercion or intimidation." I believe your guilt tactics and peer pressures do fall into these catigories.
So my advice to you is to either A) stop whining about how people aren't paying for something that is advertised as being free B) Be upfront and initally charge cash despite the questionable legal status of MTR. Stop hiding behind screen names and legal loopholes, stop hiding in the shadows and be a man and face the conserquences for your actions. Or C) stop programing software altogether, because there are a lot of other programs out there that are free, and although they may not have all the aestictics or functions of MTR, at the end of the day they do the same thing, that is to copy dvds to hard drives.

Gee, did you feel coerced and intimidated? That's a right shame. I just want to point out the difference between extortion and appealing to people's sense of morality in supporting a project they use and enjoy when wrongheaded legislation prevents developers from getting rewarded for their efforts. It's not like there are any functions disabled in MTR, or any benefits to donating, besides knowing that you supported future development. You can just keep using MTR all you want for free, but don't be too shocked when it is killed, and your comment does nothing but to bring that day closer, as it makes the developer feel that all this work is for nothing. As the old latin proverb goes, "let us be judged by our actions."

  10. This Message should be renamed to...

    PROBLEM USER USING MTR

Funny I dont remeber sending the heavy mob around to your house to extort money from you? Or Sending threatening letters to you demanding payment?

Must of been my day off!!

hell , i can now see why smeg_for_brains needs all his hard earned cash....

Its not for education , it's for his brain care specialist , that he so obviously needs.

You missed out point (D)..... You know , the one where I tell you to get your head out of your arse , and get with the program.

Do us all a favour , as you seem so in awe of the DMCA , dont use MTR,
Just go away and play in your sandpit.

Oh , and I will continue to write software as long as it annoys people like you.

    And As For....

So instead you soliciate via guilt tactics and peer pressure to have users "donate" to your oh so worthy cause

Jesus , will someone show me where I said that If i didnt get any cash my Hamster would die ?

The only time i asked for anything was when i required some hardware to test and debug some issues. When someone suggested money , i quite rightly pointed out that it was not needed, and would be of little help.

get your facts right , or , better still , learn to read...

Have A Nice Day. ( if thats possible in StupidsVille )

  11. Just Thinking about this....

At no time has anyone been asked to pay for this app. It was suggested by WW that if you felt that i was an OK Geezer , then you could feel free to donate anything you liked to my account, but it was stated that it was never for MTR.

I have never seen a post from WW or myself demanding money people.

The difference between Ladd and Smeg_for_brains?

ladd donated what he thought I deserved , and more important , a very kind message of thanks.

He donated because he thought my time and efforts were worth it. HE MADE THAT DECISION BY HIMSELF.HE DID NOT HAVE ANYONE FORCING HIM TO DO IT.

Be honest SmegHead.... your comments were really out of order , and no more that a playground defence type of argument.

The answer you got you deserved.

POINT A: Help the dude with his MTR issue.
POINT B: If a MTR user, tuition issues and all, can afford to purchase full season sets of X-Files, and the blank DVD-Rs to back them up, such a person can contribute cash to MTR and should not bitch when the suggestion is made.

  13. You mentioned that i hide behind a screen name ....

So is your real name Mr Smeg_For_Brains?

    I could quite believe that!
