you can only crop it out in vegas -- but you can use the logo away filter in virtualdub

If it was DV, and you can transfer the footage again, you might be able to get rid of it at the source. My camera allows me to turn off the date stamp as required, as it is not embedded in the footage, but in the data on the tape. If I want the date stamp to come through on the footage, I can do this, or I can turn it off. If you can do this, you will save yourself a lot of heartache.

either you have cropped it out or you didnt ... just use the pan and crop tool and crop out the area you want ..
you can also make a mask for that area if you want .. or use the v-dub logo away filter ...

to crop... first click somewhere on the timeline to show your video with time stamp in the preview window. click the "Event Pan/Crop" button, you'll find it at the very right edge of your video clip. (it will even pop up a "Event Pan/crop" sticky if you hover your mouse pointer over it) In the window that opens, you will see a big black rectangle with a dotted border and "F". The black shape represents your video, the dotted outline is what part will be visible on your TV screen. If your make the dotted outline smaller, and move it the opposite way of the time stamp, you will be "cropping" the video. As you do this, you should be able to see the change in the preview window. Obviously you will be zooming into a portion of the video, requiring a re-render and subsiquent loss of quality, but this will crop out your time stamp.

BJ_M-like the idea of the logo away filter. Will have to try that out and see how well it really works...
