I've got some XVID avi's I'm trying to watch in quicktime but I just get a white screen and no sound.
What do I need to do?
I'm running WinXP Home and I've got the latest version of quicktime.
I'm trying to watch these avi's on my TV with WMP they don't show up.
    Only MOV files do.
I'm guessing if I play them with Quicktime, they'll show up.

    Thanks,
    Kelman3

Probably you don't have the codec installed. Use Gspot to see if you have or not. QuickTime files would play with no problems since installing QuickTime itself also installs the codec. Beware of so called 'codec packs', though. They can be nothing but trouble.

Also, try using ZoomPlayer to play your files instead. It was written specifically for TV output but has since grown into one of the best all-round media players. In case you're wondering about the name, the 'zoom' part refers to how you're able to zoom and resize the actual media portion of the screen to fit to your TV.

  3. Josef, you really like Zoom Player!

I also like Media Player Classic, the standard for media playing today, IMO.
    BSPlayer is also great.

GSpot and AVICodec are both good codec info progs.

I don't recommend Winamp for video, however.

With good reason! I first used it when I, myself, used to hook up my PC to my TV to watch things, hence the comment about TV output. Since then it's become one of those 'must-haves' for me. I still have trouble remembering where a specific setting is every now and again, though. It just has so damn many of them.

I agree with just about everything you said. Zoom Player is the best! Quicktime is a lousy player. Even for playing MOV. Sorry, Apple fans.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I eventually discovered It was a setting in my display properties that need to be changed.
The setting isn't labeled, it's just an icon, so I didn't know what it was.
So I clicked it an boom.

    Zoom Player's alright.
Or maybe I just haven't harnesed its power.
