im goin for the pioneer dvr-107 - but that aint my problem - my problem is i want to make back-up copies of movies (for my own uses ) and just want to know everything that i need to do, including firmware updates - and the links to it. i also just read that

Firmware has nothing to do with a problem like that. You probably installed an OEM version of Nero meant for use with some specific brand of drives other than Pioneer. You need to own the retail version of Nero to use it with any manufacturer.

so ill need to buy the full version of the nero website correct? is there nay other cheaper programs i could use for now or any other nero suites that would work when backining up dvd-r.

    thanx for all help.

You don't actually say what the problem is!

  3. I just ordered the same drive, (white box), but i made sure it came with software. I'm hoping its Nero 6, but last time i bought a CD-burner from this site it came with Nero 5.

Will the demo version (download) of Nero work with the serial number from your OEM version? Is it a valid number?

Are we allowed to upgrade from an OEM version?

Pioneer drives are the best in my opinion, so no problem there - good choice.

All you need to back-up DVD movies are 2 FREE softwares.

    1. DVDDecrypter
    2. DVDshrink

    Nuff said.

  5. This is from the Nero 5.5 OEM license agreement;

    "I. Grant of license
This Ahead license agreement (license) permits you to use one copy of the Software acquired with this license on any single computer, provided the Software is in use on only one computer at any time."

Looks like we're entitled to 1 copy of Nero at a time. If this liscense excludes downloads then anyone with an update is in violation.

Email Ahead Software and ask them if your allowed to "Update" your OEM copy.

I haven't encountered the problem with Nero. 5.5 came with an old CD burner and it works with my new DVD burner, as well. I think you need Nero to burn with Shrink. Not sure if Decrypter has its own burning engine.

Don't waste your time on Nero. It is junk and I only use it myself under circumstances where nothing else will work.

To back up your DVD-Video software, all you need is DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink. You'll only need the latter for removing useless subtitle or dub tracks six months from now when DL burners take over the market, but it is still worth having. DVDDecrypter is an absolute godsend.
