  1. I want to archive some old home movies and my local shop has a choice of JVC DVD+RW (half price) or Verbatim DVD+R Digital Movie at roughly the same price. I don't think I'll want to record over the movies I'm archiving but if price is the same, I don't see any harm in having the option. Is there any advantage to purchasing the DVD+R i.e. do they last longer, etc.

If it means anything, I'm using a Philips DVDR75

    Thanks.

It might be that the RWs are rated at a lower burn speed, so they will take a little longer to burn. But it is possible that they are both 4x. It is also possible that your burner will only burn RWs at a lower speed. I have had more problems with RWs skipping and freezing on playback. But I suspect there is a solution to this or it may be the brand. I also have burned several DVD on +R to find out, too late, that I selected the directors comments only audio. If I had used RWs I could have just reburned the disk.

  3. They're both 4x speed and my burner works fine with that.

Anyone have any comments on JVC DVD+RW's? I've been searching web and can't seem to find anything on them..

JVC is a reseller. Who made the disc? Media ID.

  5. These are the JVC DVDs (see link below from Dixons UK).

So, are you saying they aren't any good?

    Thanks again..

DVD+R is more compatible than DVD+RW.

After recording many DVD+RW and DVD+R, my conclusion is that DVD+RW is of less a mature product than DVD+R in quality.
