  2. The size of the mpeg depends on its length and its bitrate. You can adjust these parameters with ALL mpeg encoders.

Download a bitrate calculator or use the online one. These can be found under "Tools" on the menu to the left: http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm

  5. Dude, think about this. VCD's look like VHS, with 80 min on a cd. To fit 120 min on a cd, you'll have to rape the audio and make the video incredibly blurry.

You'll have a terrible quality thing that looks and sounds worse than VHS, but wasted three hours of computer time instead of a VCR.

It'd be easier to rip and demacrovision a dvd, then put it through your TV-out and record it onto VHS. Better quality too. I suppose you could do the same thing with your divx.

MPEG is not the most efficient compression format on earth. Not even close. A 700 mb MPEG is going to look like crap. But it's not as CPU intensive as many formats, it's an accepted standard, and it'll work equally well on almost everything.

Just bite the bullet, spend the thirty cents, and use a second cd for that movie. Hell, with two cd's, you could do a svcd rip and rape the audio. SVCD's can have low-bitrate audio and still be compliant >

  6. Ace,
if you're looking to convert an avi flick to vcd and keep it to one cd, try using one of the templates that will convert a movie to xvcd or xsvcd.

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm

Sefy's template can probably transfer it and cram more minutes to a cd but may or may not play on your dvdplayer (will play on a pc though).

I'd recommend Shizzzon'z template (for tmpgenc) to turn out an xsvcd, mpeg2 settings at 352x240.

Keep in mind the cleaner the source (or divx rip for example), the cleaner your conversion will be. I did a conversion of a divx rip 707 mb (950 or 1000 video bitrate, 520x176 or so) using Shizz'z template; that came out to an xsvcd, 352x240, and about 715-720 mg vcd-ready mpg, burnt onto one cdr and playable on my tv. Nice quality, not dvdlike as you'd get from a two-cdr 480x480 svcd, but to the untrained eye-it'z good quality.

    or
Tibro'z could do it (not sure if it'll keep to one cdr or span to two cdrz)

    good luck

  8. hey, no prob,,,
it's better if you do use at least two. Even doing an svcd properly, it can fit onto two cdrz.
If ya ever want any info on using one cdr, let me know, i've done about a dozen good-better quality onez (and three were shiitt (over 120 minz)..
