  1. Get the NEC dual layer burner 2510 at Newegg for $93. Its also one of the best single layer 8x burners out there. It's the same as the 2500 only tweaked for dual layer burning. You're not really paying any extra for DL and it will be nice to have. You also could live with mainly + media the BenQ DW822A or 830A is also a good burner and both are DL capable and the 822 is under $100.

Let me suggest that whatever burner you get you need to remember what kind of media you are going to use on it.

I suggest nothing other than Taiyo Yuden DVD-R or Maxell DVD-R

Both are MADE IN JAPAN and both work really really well on just about any DVD burner (that can do -R of course).

Best price is Taiyo Yuden on-line at RIMA.COM

Currently the price is 50 pack for $60 USD ($1.20 per disc) or a 100 pack for $115 USD ($1.15 per disc).

If you insist on using other more cheap media then go with the Pioneer DVD burner as they are known to work well with cheap media but with any cheap media you are "taking a chance" that just isn't worth it IMHO

  5. As Vanderlow stated the NEC 2510A is only ~$90 at www.newegg.com It also includes FREE FedEx shipping and no tax(well in Florida at least). Might as well get it, only does DL media at 2.4X, but hey, it's damn cheap and will write single layer media at 8X easily.
