  1. I'm trying to backup ROTK using DVDDecrypter and InstantCopy V7. The rip is fine with no read errors. Compression on InstantCopy is about 53%. At about 97% complete (before writing to DVD-R), I keep getting a Multicopy.exe error and the program shuts down. I've tried three different times and always the same result. I deleted the ripped files and re-ripped the movie. That didn't help either.
Has anyone run across a similar issue? Is this because the compression is so great? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  2. Go to http://webboard.pinnaclesys.com/read_messages.asp?WebboardID=1&ForumID=877&SectionID=1...hread=50&lng=1 and read through the posts. Apparently this is an old problem with IC7. Possibly no solution?

  3. Thanks Laddydaddy. I see I'm not the only one with the prblem. Can you suggest another burning tool? Thanks.

  4. I'm not familiar with IC7. Are you only having problems with the burning part? In other words can IC7 shrink the files for you and you just can't burn them?

  5. Thanks for the quick responses Laddydaddy. I'm having issues with the shrinking process not the burning process. I don't get to the burning process due to the problem noted earlier. With IC7, after the shrinking process you are prompted to insert a blank DVD and then IC7 writes to the DVD. Hope that helps. Thanks again.

  6. From what I've read you may be SOL with IC7. The problem may be fixed with IC8. You may have to upgrade or try a different program. DVDShrink comes to mind. I have also used DCS Copysuite to make copies of large discs and gotten great results.

I know this doesn't help you much but this combo made a perfect backup of Return of the King:
    DVDDecrypter
    DVD2one
    Nero

Did it with Shrink. Compressed down to 57% and with deep scan, came out with no difference between the backup and the original.

I'll beg to differ on LOTR3. This one I split into 2 disks. It's just too long and too action intense to Shrink. I tried it, but I can see the artifacts, with Deep Scanning.

DVD2One was "soft" but no artifacts. Looked good even though it was a full movie backup (minus extra soundtracks other than 5.1)

Didn't noticed any artifacts at all with mine. This is of course subjective to the viewer. Looked pretty darn good on my 27" Sony and on my parents' 40".

  13. I also thought I can't tell the difference between my backup and the original until I watch them on my new 65" TV. I am only backing up the main movie and one sound and throw away all other craps.

I know this doesn't really help but I successfully backed up ROTK using DVDDecrypter and InstantCopy V7 (7.0.3.140) with no problems. I made two copies and they both seem to play fine in my settop player. I also successfully backed up the extras disc too. Again I know this doesn't help but it is a data point.
