    Ricoh Japan Revision 1 DVD+R (4x)
(Branded as Fuji, Maxell, Memorex, Sony, TDK & Ritek)
    Ritek Silver Top DVD+R

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've burned several hundred DVD+R with zero coasters due to defective media. I've been extremely impressed in the consistency of the quality of media I've encountered. However, to be fair, all I've ever used (write-once media) is RICOHJPNR00/RICOHJPNR01 & RITEKR02. The great majority "disapointing media" reported on this board seems to be of the DVD-R flavor.

  5. I used to be a '-' only man when i had my pioneer 104, but then I got a FAR 8x dual, and a great deal on 100 ricoh 4x (RICOHJPNR01) for $30, so I will be a '+' man for a while now.

  6. Hows about "whatevers on sale"?

I have a dual layer burner and my dvd players play both.
I have the PX-708a, and I burn everything at 4x.

Results from from my two BTC burners and two Pioneers, and then I also get results from LiteOn drives, LG, TDK, Panasonic, NEC, ... few more... would have to check... and then a dozen or more DVD recorders.

    It's a good sample.

+R and +RW for DVD Recorder.
+RW, -RW, -R for PC DVD Writers
+R, -R are now same price, and most of the 4x media are now matured products.
+RWs are faster and cheaper than -RWs.

I primary concern is to get good media at the lowest cost possible.
Let it be +R or -R

  17. I've tried DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW:

originally i started off with the -R since +R was more expensive compared to -R but know there both equal (approx 28p) but the in my tests and evaluations of the formats; the -R has proven to be more compatible with PCs, DVD Players, PS2, etc..

even when my friends have borrowed a film from me they have stated that the -R works much better than +R.

Hence, i'll be sticking to -R due to compatibility.

I use +R for data backup and -R for movies. I know that the -Rs that I have work in every player that I have tried, so I figure I might as well stick with -Rs for movies. Plus the colour is different between +R and -R so it's easier to tell at a glance what they are.

  19. I use DVD-Rs because I've heard many accounts of them being more compatible. I also use them because they play in my laptop but +R do not. I do, however, use DVD+RWs for experimenting...

I use DVD+ it writes faster.

  21. Indeed, +Rs are faster in the lead-in.
I use both of them. I always have almost the same amount of +R and -R. Though, only -Rs work in one DVD player that I got.

I use only +R and +RW because my standalone won't read -R, the only brand that ever worked was the cheapest White Label -R

  24. I only ever burned -R.
My first burner only burned -R, I never had a coaster, they played in everything I put them in so far, price is low, I am happy with them.
Never saw a reason to try +R yet, though I do have a dual format burner.

I have had a couple coasters, but that was a bad Lite-on drive and even tech support said to return that one to the store for a refund.
Bad Nero burns made a couple coasters too, I avoid Nero -
A PS2 ate one disk, wore a groove on the outer edge of a new disk durring it's first play. I know what the P S stands for Should be POS2!

No format type disk problems though, so I stick with -R.
