    Hello,

I installed TMPGEnc 2.5 onto another PC so i can encode movies overnight

But i keep getting strange output files

I use a 700Mb divx file and i want to convert it to MPEG2 to burn to DVD.

The output file is only 720Mb

I am sure it should be a few Gb's ?

I am only encoding the video, not the audio.

    Anyone seen this before ?

    Cheers

  2. Typically that happens when you set bitrate too low. Use the videohelp bitrate calculator to estimate the bitrate you need.

    Ok cheers

    You mean use this,

    https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

Looks straight forward just a few question,

How do i know what audio bitrate to use ?

Also do i copy the "Calculated Bitrate in to TMPGEnc ?

    cheers

  4. Thats the one. Use the resulting bitrate in tmpgenc, as average if you use VBR. The audio bitrate will not take much space in the dvd so just use high enough, for many people 192 would be the minimum for AC3, 224 for MP2, but it is still individual. 256 is ok for high quality audio sources, a divx at 700MB is not likely to have so good audio anyway, 192 should be plenty.

Ok i enter the details and got this,

So in TMPGne i set it to this,

Rate Control = 2pass VBR (VBR)

    Bitrate = 4267

I am unable to change the Bitrate now, it greyed out as soon as i select 2pass VBR (VBR), that sound right ?

  6. Yes, click the settings button to change the VBR bitrate. Or just use CBR, tmpgenc is painfully slow at CBR, 2 pass VBR should be used together with painkillers.

How 'bout sleeping pills. I like the better quality with 2-pass and I encode overnight.

  8. With an Athlon 1600 and tmpgenc you need sleeping pills, yes. Why is it called overnight encoding when it actually takes much longer to encode a full dvd in 2pass? A few hours of reading, trying + a few test encodes with CCE/AviSynth, well spent time for saving time.

Yes AviSynth and CCE is much more powerfull and flexible than using just TMPGEnc plus of course the main benefit is SPEED.

  10. Yup, CCE is still the Ferrari of encoders. I had some time to test out mainconcept a bit lately, and i cant confirm the findings of others about MC having aprox same speed as CCE. Even if i used AviSynth to frameserve to MC the difference could be more than 20% extra for MC. Sure MC is fast compared to tmpgenc, but i kinda doubt the programmers of MC are proud of that.
