  1. I'm testing conversion of WMV-HD files into DivX at hi-def. But even though I select hi-def in Dr. DivX's options, the result still looks horrible and definitely totally unlike the WMV file I began with.

Does anyone know why WMV-HD does not seem to convert properly to DivX-HD?

WMV-HD has a higher resolution than the average Divx file you have ever seen. You will need to up the bitrate of your Divx encode quite a bit to get the same quality. The HD profile in Dr. Divx is pretty misleading because it is in no way high definition at all.

    Please provide the following info:

    1. How long is the WMV?

    2. What resolution(width and height) is the avi file you made? You can check by right clicking and selecting Properties>Summary.

    3. What is the file size of the avi?
