Demux the subtitle stream. Open the MKV with Virtualdubmod, go to streams>stream list, select the subtitle stream and click "demux". As long as the file is named like your movie, i.e. movie.mkv and movie.srt the subs should show up when you encode again.

  3. Is it necessary to have VSFilter.dll installed for that to work?
(I'm NTSC-land and never use subtitles)

    -----------edit-----------------

    Or to rephrase the question.......

Is the SUB parsed by an existing Windows filter, or separately by the Matroska Splitter?

    -----------edit-----------------

OK, i'm convinced........it works just like you said.

    1. Install VobSub and change from default "Hide Subtitles" to "Show Subtitles".
    2. Use VDubMod to extract SRT file and name same as MKV
    (sample.mkv / sample.srt)
    3. Open in TMPGEnc and encode

I'd still like to know why it won't just play the SRT when loaded in TMPGEnc. (According to the icon in the task-bar, VobSub is loaded.)

  4. Yo, check this post so see if you could make it through. There are 2 of them (mine is the second (NightScream) so try them out).
