I've got a sort of problem here. I have a Quicktime .mov file. I like that quicktime has frame by frame options (and I want to do that with the video). The problem is that the video is too dark and the free edition of Quicktime does not let you change brightness/gamma etc.

So what are my choices of players or do I have to edit the .mov and how can I do that?

Probably its a wrong suggestion, but I would simply adjust brightness/contrast on a monitor... that would be the easiest way unless of course if you need to play this clip hundred times a day or something...

oops, I may have put this in the wrong board! My bad...

But yeah.... my brightness is already on almost maximum and its still so dark, so I know its the video. I'm not sure what I can do. I want to know why is it SO HARD for players to add a brightness feature? Windows Media player is free and has that built in, but this is a .mov. And even if I was lets say gonna convert it to .wmv that won't solve my 'frame by frame' problem then.

Zoom Player has built in color controls. You should be able to play a mov with it. I haven't had a problem doing so.

  5. I'd try installing Media Player Classic w/ the quicktime alternative pack. Also I'd get the quicktime vfapi plugin for TMPGenc and rencode in tmpgenc to MPEG-1 or something using TMPGenc color controls to brighten up your mov file.

Well Zoomplayer had the control controls, but they don't work! It's like rubbing the paid version in your face...

As for this TMPGenc thingy, I hope its easier than Virtualdub, which I just can't figure out for the life of me, and want an excuse to get rid of it. I hope this other program isn't as hard... after all I am posting this in a NOOB board, thus meaning, I am one.

Media players are such a headacke. I wish there was just one I could get for free that plays all sorts of video and audio files, and has colour controls and frame by frame. Cause then I don't need to have several installed just for very occassional usage.

Could you explain that a little? I'm not sure I know what you mean.

If TMPGenc and Virtualdub are too hard for you , maybe you've chosen the wrong hobby.
You aren't going to find anything easier to use , and there are so many well written guides on how to do just about anything possible with them.

  11. Put the qtreader.vfp file in the tmpgenc folder. Load the mov file into TMpgenc, load the VCD template and go to andvanced options --> color controls and increase brightness and contrast, then encode to VCD.
