  1. i haev 3 different mpeg files that appear to be in vcd format and i would like to get them all together into one of course avi and then of course onto dvd.
what i am doing is i am extracting the files using the guide and isobuster and then i convert them to avi and then try to merge file 1 and 2 together but it ends up making the file like about 100GB and yes i did say 100GB I tried using huff or sumthing like that. Can someone please maybe give me a little more direction into what i could do a little better as i am sort of lost with some of the guides that i am reading.

Normally i have to mpeg's that i extract using isobuster then i use virtualdub to convert them with no compression and then i append them together. I then use TmpegEnc to get them to 16:9 ratio adn then fianally TMpeg DVD Author to finish up and finally nero to burn. I seem to have no problems with this method except it takes like a day to do this.

    Runnin:
    Athlon 3200+
    512MB RAM
    160GB HDD for movie space
    Lite-On EXT. DVD Burner - 851s

If they're actually VCD mpegs then all you need to do is drop them into TMPGEnc DVD Author which will resample the audio to DVD spec, set up the files to play one after the other, author and burn.

Your way will only result in quality loss due to the number of conversions, every conversion looses quality.

BTW, time to change your handle..perhaps tech-in-training. Just kidding.

That 160GB HD came in handy then.
Not surprised by that huge file , thats what you call an uncompressed avi file.

    Agree with ZippyP .

You can get 7.5 hours approx of vcd mpeg1 on a DVD-R . So as long as your files aren't any longer than that in total you should be ok.

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/convert/vcdtodvd/vcdtodvd.htm

I found this by clicking on the words TMPGenc DVD Author in ZippyP's post and it took me to the TMPGenc DVD Author page.
Scrolled down and it lists the guides available for it.

This does assume that your files are indeed Mpeg1 (VCD spec).

No , if it is mpeg1 that is a good thing , that means it is vcd and you can use it .

Start TDA and click 'Start new project' Then 'Add file'
Then select your first file , TDA has a box to check to convert the audio sampling rate , create your chapters for that clip.

Then click 'Add New Track' add your next clip create chapters and so on.

Sounds like you have a PAL SVCD. I don't know what country you're in but unless you live in Europe you'll probably have to convert the resolution and frame rate to NTSC.

  10. so then what would be the best way to keep the best quality if i had 2 different files that were the correct format, in order to put both of them together and fit nicely on one dvd

Could you first specify whether you're in a PAL or NTSC country?

  12. NTSC. I guess i am lost as to getting the PAL SVCD converted to NTSC. I have been trying to read and follow some of the guides and maybe i am just reading them to fast the few times i have checked or maybe i am just a little lost as to what i am even trying to do. I think I need sum 1 to slap me around and tell me what i am trying to do as I am now jsut totaly lost. I tried some of the above methods with 2 other SVCD's and i am getting the wrong size again and also GOP to long errors.......someone please save me from myself

You'll probably have to convert the 480x576 25fps video to 352x480 23.976 with pulldown applied. I would imagine that TMPGEnc Plus would be good for this, but I think you should hold off and wait for someone to post that is more knowledgable of PAL-NTSC than myself before you attempt anything. Where's FulciLives when you need him? :P

I'd convert to 25 fps PAL and see if your dvd player can play it. I know my player has no problems with PAL. Try a short test and use an RW. It's alot easier than converting framerates if it works.

Select the PAL DVD template, use the source range function in Other Settings>Advanced to specify a short clip, then author the clip as you normally would. Burn onto a RW disc.

You can try to cut small part of a file with TMPG and make a PAL SVCD from the cutted mpeg. BTW if it is mpeg-1 it is non standart SVCD. How you found out the files are mpeg-1?
If this SVCD play in your player there is big probability that the pal dvd will play also.
