What's the best way to shut this message up? I've done quite a few things, but my ASUS & athalon 2800+ system seems to be going Nuckin' Futs with this lately. I don't use it that much either. Did I download something I shouldn't have? All of my computers have pretty much the same Hardware SETUP, but not identical Hardware. They all have the same softwares installed as I use them to test things back and forth to see if things really vary from one system to another. This is a test for me and I have no answers.

Take a look at this page of info on virtual memory, might give you some help. The exact text of the error also would be helpful. Or just do a Google search for the error. http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php

I get a message that says 'Virtual Memory Low' and then says it's going to do something to fix it, but it keeps reappering. The icon shows in the system tray. The little triangle with the '!' in the middle.

This is pretty common when you have a program that doesn't release used memory properly. You can increase the virtual memory size and see if that helps, but XP usually handles virtual memory size fine on its own. You appear to have sufficient RAM on your system.

  6. I agree. Just in case you or someone else doesn't know what it is, virtual memory is hard drive space that acts like system RAM. Theoretically, it is suppose to be an area of memory the computer can use when the RAM is full. However, there are some programs that store things directly to the vitrual memory (for only God knows what reasons). If you have your settings for the virtual memory set so low that these programs fill it up, you may recieve that error.

Press contol+Alt+del and go to the performace tab. your virtual memory is the section Commit Charge. There should be three entries... Total, Limit, and Peak. Is your peak close to the limit?

when this happened to me...i closed some of my open programs and just click on the "X" of the pop up message and it never returned...don't click inside the message...

this may mean that you need to add more ram...

I had already checked a few items to see if I could find what's causing the issue on the one system. Like I said, I have several systems, with the same software, but this one is the one with the V/M problem. I checked the peak and available and I'm well in the green area and should be okay. How can I increase the V/M? I used to know a long while back, but it's not something you do every day.

start>control panel>system>advanced tab>performance settings>advanced tab(again)>virtual memory note: I have XP set to classic interface for this window so it might be slighly different on your machine or you can go up in the left hand corner a click view as classic interface or something like that...

There's a page on www.blackviper.com discussing virtual memory but that was for performance, might want to check it out anyway. This site has a lot of good information.
