I have a damaged DVD that DVD decrypter was not able to extract. I also tried Nero and NTI to try to create iso images from but due to defects in the DVD they also failed. I have obtained a VCD of the same video and would like to convert or produce an mpg file which I could then process with an authoring program such as DVD Author or directly a new DVD of this material.

I have been unable to figure out the tools that could be used to accomplish this task. If there is a way to solve this problem could someone please either point me in the direction or point me towards a guide that I could follow to solve this problem.

    Thanks,

  3. Finding software to do it is'nt a problem just finding 1 thats free, I tried the cucusoft encoder which gave a free trial and TMPGEnc, both gave good results but cucusoft would only do a very small file and TMPGEnc was a time limited demo, cucusoft was v/easy to use but lacked any setting changes so I ended up getting TMPGEnc 2.5 which I like (once I know how to use it properly ) and it gets good reviews of ppl who know

    I can't say that I've ever heard of a freeware MPEG-2 encoder.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. If you have a VCD then you do not need to convert or re-encode the video. VCDs are in a DVD-legal resolution.

Here is the link (found under Author guides):

    Hope this helps,

Author the DVD as normal in Ulead, then point DVD Shrink to the VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive. That's it.
