Well forgive me if the anwser is somewhere else.
I'm new at burning dvd's & need a little (BIG) time help.
Can you or can you not make a working DVD that will play in most home players using Nero 6?
If so what have I been doing wrong, I have three MPEG-2 & one AVI movie just waiting to burn, thanks!
I've been going svcd on cdrom's before I got my DVD/RW & now want my new one's on DVD.
I have TMPGEnc but not installed yet and wonding do I have to make dvd's?
Well I found something that I'm no good at.

Nero 6-Use the DVD VIDEO template. Click the ISO tab, file name=ISO level 1,character set=ISO 9660,un-check Joliet, uncheck relax ISO restrictions.
Works for me on all DVD players including "ancient" Toshiba from 1999.

  3. Forget those settings, Nero Express, DVD-Video, put all your VOBs, BUPs, IFOs into the VIDEO_TS folder (automatically generated by Nero) and youre all set
You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off.

But first you need to convert those mpegs to DVD
    Use TMPGEnc DVD Author
If those mpgs are not DVD compliant see next conversion guide

For the avi to DVD conversion you can use DVD2SVCD

  5. So as to avoid confusion, do NOT use Nerovision Express to encode your files. Install TMPGEnc and encode using the wizard.
Take resulting mpeg, and import into TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVDLab.
Add chapters and menus as you like.
Burn in Nero Burning Rom, or use the built in burning software within the authoring app. Both TMPGEnc DVD Author and DVDLab have basic, yet functional burners built in.

#1 Nero rookie mistake: The contents of the Video_TS folder has to go into the nero Video_TS folder. It's backwards from VCD/SVCD, where you drop the MPEG into the 'work' area, not the file structure above it. Don't put a video_TS folder into another one. That's for "Authored" files (VOB's/BUPs/IFOs).

    Thanks tompika,reboot & all
Well I've added TMPGEnc DVD Author, but am getting this.
ERROR This is an illegal video file.
For DVD-Video you can only use the following video formats:
    MPEG-1 Video, MPEG-2 Video
TMPGEnc DVD Author does NOT have MPEG encoding abilities.
I would like to get this file in,MPEG Layer-3 any thoughts or help again?
    Thanks a bunch
Well I found something that I'm no good at.

  8. First use the trial version of TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress to get DVD compliant mpgs.

  9. TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc DVD Author are two completely different programs.
Encode in TMPGEnc. Author in TMPGEnc DVD Author.
    Burn in Nero.
Although they are good basic programs, they both have limitations/faults.
I much prefer to use Mainconcept Mpeg Encoder or Canopus Procoder to encode, and DVDLab to author.
    Just click on the names

  13. Don't forget your choice of media can also affect the cross platform compatibility - some DVD players in particular are very unforgiving beasts and have a preference over media manufacturer and book type.

  15. No, please, don't use dvdit. Like Playskool toys, not for big boys.
Look in the guides. Find one you can use for TMPGEnc.
Then use this one for dvdlab: https://www.videohelp.com/guides?link=602
Once it's finished, burn in Nero, or use DVDLab's built in burning engine.

  17. You'll get it. It's a series of important steps, that must be done to get a finished DVD.
1.) Encode to mpeg2, dvd format in TMPGEnc.
2.) Author it in DVDLab as per my nifty tute
3.) Burn it in Nero Burning Rom.
If you have any specific questions about using any of those 3 programs, please ask. Don't make coasters, if in doubt at all, use a DVDRW first!
