I was following a guide (now I can't seem to find the right one) on converting avi files to mpeg2.

The first step was to check for freezes using virtual dub.

I then extracted the audio, created stereo from the mono source, and resampled to 48000 using Gold Wave and outputted a wav file.

I then used TMPGEnc to convert the 320x240 original avi to 352x240 mpeg2 with audio.

I attempted to Author these files using ULEAD DVD Workshop v1.3. I setup a template within Workshop that was identical to the format of the mpeg files so that no conversion would be necessary (since they are already DVD compliant). However, after starting Workshop, it runs for about 90 minutes "converting" files, then aborts with an error "unknown error occured".

So since I can't find the original guide I was using, and what I have now isn't working.....I'm willing to start from scratch....again.

I have the original avi's and I still have the wav files I created.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the help. Feel free to smack me for posting in the wrong forum.

  2. Some applications do not accept 352*240 mpeg2 as valid for DVD. mpeg1 at this resolution, CBR less than 1850kbps IS valid. Mpeg2 I am not sure about.

Try TmpGenc DVD author or DVD-lab instead.

Mpeg-2 is valid at this res for NTSC.

Buster is right though - try using a different authoring package, as some work only within narrow parameters and not the full DVD spec (given the audience this package is marketed at, I'm spurprised it doesn't handle this)

  4. I author all sorts of strange mpegs in dvdlab, with almost no trouble.
If you have a valid audio stream, it will accept 352x240 video at any bitrate, and allow you to author the dvdr.
