  1. (Apologies if this has already been answered -- I searched the forum and found nothing related)

I made an SVCD using DVD MovieFactory for the authoring portion (SVCD MPGs were already created with TMPGEnc). I added an intro movie, menus, chapters, the whole 9 yards.

The only problem I came across is that when I play it back and try to advance directly to the next chapter during playback, I'm dumped back to the menu, and have to select it from there.

Does anyone know if this is a "feature" of MovieFactory, or of my Apex 500 (B, I think), or what?

I've been thinking of trying to create the disc with TSCV, but I don't want to go through the trouble if it won't help, yaknow?

    Anyhow, thanks for any help.

This is definitely a feature of the authoring program. The DVD player just follows what is on the VCD... It doesn't really have a "mind" of its own.

I don't know MovieFactory much at all so I don't know if you can change this behaviour. Somebody else may be able to help you with this.

However, if you are planning on use VCDImager with one of the GUIs (e.g., TSCV or VCDEasy), you can definitely customise the menus, chapters, etc., anyway you wish.

There are guides out for TSCV and if you search the forums, you will find them.

My main interest is in VCDImager itself and I've written a number of articles that describe how the underlying XML system works. It may be worth you while to read them if you are planning on using VCDImager or one of its GUIs.
