    my audio quit working, I can play cd's, so I know my sound card and drivers are ok, but anything from the h.d. wont play. It thinks it's playing, but no sound comes out.

    You did not mention if you checked your volume settings. And everything else you tried.

    This may be too simple, but you might just wanna re-check your volume level. Double-click on the sound icon at the bottom right until your volume control panel pops up...make sure to check both of these
