  1. Hello all,

After burning dozens of DVDs, with all different kinds of media, I've never had any problems with my Sony DRU-500AX with upgraded firmware.

Recently, I tried burning an Alias DVD and kept getting errors each time I tried and retried. I didn't switch to new media, change software, hardware, or anything.

Here is a screenshot of the copytodvd log:

Does anyone know what this means? I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. If I didn't provide enough info or details, please let me know at jen@ impactglobal.com.

    Thanks!
    Jennifer

  2. well, first thing would be to see if theres a mark on the dvd, like scratches.
i see its an old verision of copytodvd as well, there on version 3.10. now.
or maybe just a bad dvd-r,try to stick to ritek or other good brands, failing that it might be a freak occurence.
if not, send the log to VSO,the makers of copy to dvd.
i mailed VSO my log before, and they managed to sort out the problems i started having in a later version.
    there support is very good.

  3. RottenFoxBreath,

I don't think it's the media because 30 of them worked fine, but I've made 10 coasters in the last week! They all seem to have a burn error at exactly the same spot, despite whatever file I'm burning.

Do you know if it's free to update my version of copytodvd?

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll give them all a shot!

    I wouldn't call that a Program error.

It translates to 1 of 3 possible problems.

Could be your hard drive. Either fragmented (run a defragger), or weak/bad sectors.

Could be your burner. On it's last legs?

But, most likely, it's the media. There isn't a media ID, so the media could be some cheap stuff from Shop4tech (Matrix?), you also have the burning speed set to 4x, though Copy to DVD is actually burning at 2x (~21 minutes for 3.6-3.8gig). The Sony 500 has issues with any DVD-R media with less quality than the best. Try to get some higher grade media (Taiyo Yuden or Maxell).
