  1. I have a 4x DVD writer,Iomega Super DVD writer.
With Nero 6 it can burn only up to 2x with DVD-R.
Is there something wrong with it?

Too few details here. You must realise that sometimes your burner will not burn 4x discs due to a firmware issue. Make sure you have the latest firmware.

Check your burner and discs with other user reports to see if it actually burns at 4x for other peeps. You may have only 2x write strategies for those discs.

If you have established that they do indeed burn at 4x for others, then make sure your DMA is enabled. And that you have the latest firmware.

    Cheers.

  5. I had DMA enabled.
I think it might be the media?
Could it be possible that both Brands are not compatible with the drive?

It would help if you posted the media codes from the discs you burned.
Use dvdinfo pro or dvd identifier to find out the media codes.

  12. What if I changed the IDE cable for the one that came with it?
Does it matter if it is slave or master?

I asked you to post the media codes from those burned discs. I gave you the programs you can use to get the media code. You ask for help and suggestions are made. How about following some suggestions and perhaps you can get to the root of your burner problem.

it could make a difference. hasnt for me yet, but im sure some brands out there are setup to perform only a certain way. i dont think the ide cable itself is gonna make a difference unless its somehow kinked. your jumper settings would be more important, specially if its set to cable select. thats been my experience anyways.

yeah, what media are you using? like budz says, that might help us out. lets just start with the actual name. BTW has this drive ever worked at 4x?

  16. I've used Memorex and Khypermedia both 4x only burned at 2x.
    I've used Verbatim DVD+RW at 2.4x ,and Sony 1x DVDs at 1x.
Imation CD-R's at 16x(drive should do max at 24x).

i would honestly hold of on buying a new burner anytime soon. might wanna wait till dual layer gets a little more mainstream, could just be worth the wait. i would seriously try better media though. cause the stuff your using now might just up and become useless without notice one day. if the stuff your backing up is worth keeping, definately get better media.

  25. Ok,it burns 4x with Sony media.
So I guess it needs good quality DVDs and CD-Rs.
I'll get a dual burner when they are cheaper and reliable.

dont worry, the first spindle i ever bought was cheap media. i think every single body who just gets a dvd burner gets cheap media. its just too damn tempting. "why am i gonna spend $10 more for the same crap?"

i've found just buying the better media cuts down on overall costs. i think i spent more money on aleve that it would have cost to just get the good media

glad you got it to work though

  27. I'll try Ritek,Verbatim,and TDK.
    I'll continue using Sony meanwhile.

Good to hear you got the 4x burning done with Sony media. Just be careful of TDK media, from what I heard some of their dvd media is now being made by CMC.

I seen it places but I just pass it by.

Discs manufactured by the company CMC are considered crappy media. Some brands that use discs manufactured by CMC are MEMOREX & TDK that I know of. Check this site: www.nomorecoasters.com for media quality.
