I think the sign post looks better with the AVI capture converted to MPEG-2 with CCE than it does captured direct to MPEG-2

I admit that the second picture (close up of the monster's face) doesn't show a huge difference between the two methods.

Perhaps my fault because I was going for a close-up but this is kind of a dark shot with very little in focus other than that oh-so-lovely monster face hehehe.

I can't really do direct to MPEG-2 though because my computer is too slow and I suffer some frame drops with that method of capturing plus my capture card will have an aspect ratio problem if I capture direct to MPEG-2

So other than for "testing" purposes I can't do direct to MPEG-2 captures for a full length movie nor would I want too with my current capture card (because of the aspect ratio problem) even if my comptuer could handle it speed wise (i.e., without the frame drops).

However for the limited hardware I do have I can get some damn fine results capturing AVI using PICVideo MJPEG and CCE as my MPEG-2 encoder.

Your source has 576 lines. Resizing this to 480 messes up the interlace. I'm not sure what sizes you have tried, but you should stay above 384 on the 1st number and stick with 576 on the 2nd.

    FulciLives,

    Still doing those home movies?
Thanks for the tip. I aim to put my caps on DVD so I'll try 720 x 576 (PAL DVD).
