uhhhhh, a kevlar helmet would be enitrely useless. kevlar works by stopping the bullet piercing the vest. the energy is still pushed into the target (that bloke was lucky to not suffer a heart attack) and can cause serious injuries, such as fractures and internal bleeding. can you imagine someone jabbing you with their thumb at a couple hundred miles an hour? as such a kevlar helmet simply wouldn't work. unless it was externally kevlar with some kind of absorbing layer. just sounds a bit weird to me.

The kevlar helmets aren't designed to deflect a direct rifle bullet. They're more suited for deflecting shrapnel.

ah, that makes a bit more sense. i suppose shrapnel could be quite sharp but with a lower amount of energy.

Butters in south park could have done with one.....

Well, even if that nimrod had a genuine kevlar helmet when someone shot him in the head, he still would have probably been killed or at least he'd be drooling all the time now when he talks - if he could still talk

Reminds of that prick who pretended he had been shot in the kevlar helmet whilst serving in Iraq. He had his own centre page spread in The Sun until it turned out he was a lying ******* twat. Personally I would've placed the helmet back on his head and taken a couple of pot shots at him to give him chance of becoming a real hero.

Maybe if the bullet skidded on the side, but it wouldn't be a direct hit then. What if you had a metal plate in your head and wore the kevlar helmet. That might keep you from becoming a vegetable. You'd probably have an overpowering headache and ringing in your ears the rest of your life, but you might survive. The new question would be, how the person got the metal plate in his head? And then why would he be in combat after have one? Those are the real mysteries.

Are we talking point blank with a high powered gun, or are we talking .22 rifle or BB gun from a distance away? jk I've used air rifles with as much power to blow a kleenex, let alone break the skin.

I am assuming that Flan is talking something slightly bigger than a .22, I mean if you got shot in the head with a .44 then I'll go out on a limb and say that a kevlar or anyother kind of helmet wouldn't help you.

Speaking of air rifles, my friends and I use to have pellet and BB gun wars in their barn. We would build forts out of the hay and straw, turn all the lights off except for one then sneak around and shoot each other. It was a blast. We only had one rule...had to wear goggles. We didn't have paint ball, but that would have been a blast too.

My brother and I used to freeze one small container of paint pellets and then mix them in with a full case. Those days were fun. You never knew who had a frozen one and when it would get you or someone else until you heard or gave a loud groan and there was no paint mark. Even heavy clothing doesn't help. When I went paintballing, we wouldn't play unless everyone had full face masks, long jeans, and a flannel or sturdy jacket. We would get close for fights and we had some autos. If someone had an auto with a few frozen pellets, you were in pain if you weren't protected well. I had quite a few sore hands from getting pelted while not not wearing gloves. Remember it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.....then it's just fun.

Complete and utter incomprehensible gibberish I have absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about ******* gun nuts
Sorry I tend to ramble a bit when I'm talking with a fellow shooter.

    I'll translate: .44 magnum ....Dirty Harry's caliber
31 grains of H110 - A slow-burning powder and a whole lot of it Picked for the fireball it would generate in upcoming night pictures
180 grain bullet- Typical bullet for a .44 mag is 240 grains, so this is a very light, very fast bullet with that much powder.
    1500 foot-pounds - Compare it to .38 special (200), 9mm (~350), standard factory .44 mag (~900 - 1,000) .45 ACP (~350), .41 magnum (~700), 10mm (~700), and .357 magnum (~525), this is enough muzzle energy to stop a speeding Rolls Royce

We took the night pics. The gun - .44 Magnum Desert Eagle. My friend held the shutter open, fired the flash to expose the foreground detail, and then I fired the gun to get the fireball.

    And the result -

    Couldn't resist, Indo

If you think thats big - think again...

I just get to design and test them, but we're not allowed to really test them anymore

I like the tank tompika I've always wanted to drive one but never got the chance. It would make a perfect commuter vehicle here in Albuquerque And, yes, that makes my Desert Eagle look like a BB gun

Tompika - have you ever worked around Chobham armor?
