  1. Fellow AIW 7500 owners, please help...

I am trying to use an OEM AIW 7500 on a PII-400 system. I originally tried the software CD that came with the card, which contained MMC 8.1. But the TV function would always crash; so a friend told me to revert back to MMC 7.7, and the matching Catalyst 3.1. I downloaded the drivers from ATI's web site, and although the TV now works (though the image doesn't seem very sharp), I can't install the DVD player app in the suite, because my software CD's ID can't be verified by the installation file. Can anyone please help me with the latest possible versions of softwares I can use, so I can install everything and not crash?

    Thanks in advance...

The PC is probably too slow to capture.

Stick in your installation CD and do custom install. Install only the DVD player (not positive you can install only the DVD player). As your finding out to upgrade or install ATI's DVD player you need a previous installation or the original CD.

You may have to uninstall all ATI software. Reinstall everthing from the CD including the DVD player. Uninstall the catalyst drivers and MMC then install the version of Cat and MMC you want. I had the same problem, I forget exactly which procedure I went through but the above should work if you can't install just the DVD player.

  6. nah

the max i could get it to capture was 320x240 @ about 29.97 frames/sec, but not AVI...Mpeg1 or WMV. It was fine...because the kid is shooting short films on VHS and editing in Vegas 3.

  7. I understand it may not capture on the PII... I mainly want to be able to watch both TV and DVD. I personally find the DVD player included in ATI MMC to have a better image quality than, say, PowerDVD for example.

I am still not clear on which version to use though -- does this mean I have to give up one or the other?

I had the same trouble installing the upgraded DVD player from the download file without a current version installed on my comp , when trying to install it asks you to insert the installation CD to determine that you have a previous copy of the DVD player correct? The installation then stops because it can't determine that you do for whatever reason.....

At this point you feel like this because the installtion instructions on the ATI site say all you need is a previous installation or the CD. The only way I was able to upgrade the DVD player to the current version was by having a previuos installation, simply having the CD wouldn't work...

So if you can't get the upgrade installation from ATI site to work you need to install it from the CD first, then run the upgrade installation.

Problem is, the CD that came with my card is MMC 8.1... So it would actually be a downgrade if I were to install from CD first. I think the DVD player is still going to ask for the CD ID. But I will try tonight and see what happens...

  10. I'm surprised that a PII motherboard would have an AGP4 (I think thats what the 7500 uses) slot. If you could find an old AIW 128 PCI card it might work better with your processor. I used to run that card with a PII 400 (with Abit MBoard) with success up to 640x480 mpg (with all non-essential normally running applications shut down). The dropped frames were usually under 1% and since I only copied short clips from home video for editing/joining later, there was no noticable audio-synch problem. I thought the quality was much better than the 7500. I became so disgusted with the Radeon 7500 and its huge assortment of drivers and MMCs that I switched to the Pinnacle AV/DV capture device.
I never had any success upgrading the drivers and MMC, and always had to go back to the original installation disk (at the time I purchase mine the were using version 7.5). Every time I upgraded I would end up losing either the TV or the DVD Player function. I just use the Video drivers now and it is a good video card.
    Good Luck.
If it works, don't fix it.

It's actually not AGP 4X -- only 2x -- but the 7500 was the only Radeon card I could find on the store shelves that supported 2X.
