  1. I have a bunch of Star Trek tv shows I've recorded in avi that I would like to get onto dvd.

My question, what is a good method for converting these and getting the best quality and still get multiple programs onto one dvd disc? Most of the shows are around 300-360 megs each.

It's been a while since I've done this and use to use tmpgenc to encode and then DVDLab to burn the dvd's with, but I had some mixed results. Some dvd's would freeze up or skip...etc.

Looking for suggestions...maybe there is nothing better/newer than what I use to do.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

They are probably still the best tools for the job. At 300-360mbs each, I am assuming DivX/Xvid. What res ? If they are lower res, I'd suggest using half-D1. You should get 4 - 6 episodes per disk without sacrificing much if anything of the quality you have now.

Freezing and skipping usually means bad media. Try some better/different disks.

Well, in the my beginning days of doing this I was using the 1x Compusa generic brand with my Sony DRU-500A. I've also tried Memorex and Verbatim on this drive and with my Plextor PX-708A drive. On some home dvd players some disc will play fine and some will still freeze or skip sometimes.

I know this question has probably really been run over many times, but what are some of the better media to avoid these problems?

    Thanks!
