The following is the way I back DVDs to 4.7 DVD discs:

    1) Rip the DVD using DVDDecryptor, you can also rip using DVDShrink, but I had trouble with it for a couple of DVDs so I just use DVDDecryptor.

    2) I then use TitleSetBlanker to blank out the Extras, FBI warnings, Trailers, etc, this will then enable you shrink the dvd with an improved video quality for the movie while maintaining the DVD Menus. There are other tools to do this but I found TitleSetBlanker to be the most easiest to use. You will also need DVDShrink 2.3 which allows you to see the RAW files so that you can determine which title files to blank out.

    Title Set Blanker

DVDShrink 2.3 - use to see RAW title files

    3) Use DVDShrink 3.1.7 to shrink the DVD that you ripped

    4) Burn the shrunk DVD to Disc. You can output the shrunk files in DVDShrink to an ISO and then use DVDDecryptor to burn the ISO

All this is done using great software i mentioned all for free, you can get the software from the links provided.

  2. I guess I'll be the first one to throw my vote to Intervideo DVD Copy. If I'm pressed for time and want to do just a movie-only backup I'll usually use DVD2ONE. But if I'm doing a full disc backup I now always use Intervideo. While I won't go as far as the recent test to say that it looks nearly identical to the original, I do have to say that it is the best program for full disc backups. Yes there is some pixelization, especially in darker scenes but you're going to get that with most programs. But some are better than others and I personally think Intervideo stands above the rest. I know I'm going to get crucified for my opinion here, but it is just that- my opinion. Here is a list of programs I have used in the past in rank order from best to worst (when doing full disc backups).

    1. Intervideo DVD Copy 2 Platinum
    2. Clone DVD
    3. DVD Shrink
    4. DVD X Copy Xpress
    5. Nero Recode
    6. DVD2ONE
