I'm looking for a used, broken, but somehwat working MiniDV cam. All I need it to do is play back tapes, output via Firewire to my computer, and have an AC adapter. The ability to record isn't nessesary. I don't need a battery with it, either. Anybody have an old cam laying around that they're willing to sell me on the cheap? I figure someone has one that they dropped and broke the lens, or lost the battery and accessories, or whatever the case may be that they can sell for, say, $50 to $75. The LCD/viewfinder can be malfunctioning or missing, it can be covered in scratches and dents, IT DOESN'T MATTER! I'll only be using it as a way to capture footage to my computer, so it doesn't even need to be able to plug into a television set. As long as it'll play tapes and output via Firewire without problems, it'll do the job for me.

  3. I'm quite familiar with ebay, in fact I bought my GL1 on there. However, i'd rather buy something like this from someone who knows what they're talking about. The majority of camcorders in that price range on ebay are either "we didn't test it so we don't know if it'll play tapes or not" or "doesn't include anything at all." I figure someone who's a videographer is more likely to know exactly what works and what doesn't, and is more likely to have such cameras laying around in the closet or whatnot. Hence my posting here.
