    Hello

I have read the related topics and I have increased the Direct show priority to 2, I tried renaming the file as .asf, I even unchecked all the other VFAPI plugins I had in the options of TMPGENC but it still refuses to open my file which of course plays perfectly in media player.

Are there other tools than TMPGENC to convert this file to mpg for example and then I could run it through TMPGENC ?

    What can I do ?

    Thanks for the help

  2. Try using asftools to convert it to an avi. Works with many older wmv files but not with those created with later versions of MS's encoder.

    Thanks for the tip.

I have gotten asftools and the media encoder 7.1, I have converted the file to a MPEG4.3 AVI file but TMPGENC still refuses to open it.

What did I do wrong ?

    Thanks

Try a different avi file type. Uncompressed would be most likley to work, but is likley to be HUGE.

Well, I don't really care about the file size since the original WMV is 595k so even if the AVI is a few megs it's no big deal, the problem is that I didn't see any possibility to convert WMV to uncompressed AVI in asftools, all he wants to convert to is to WMV-2 or MPEG4.3 WMV-2 (info given by avicodec once the file is converted)

Is there a speciual setting to allow asftool to convert to uncompressed AVI format ?

    Thanks

  6. Hmm, sorry. Long time since I used asftools so I can't remember its capabilities. Looks like no go.

Are you absolutley sure TmpGenc will not open the avi it produced. Have you tried rasing the directshow filter priority to 3 or 4, even 5 maybe. I have sued TmpGenc to open wmv files in the past, though I have not Always been succesful.

Had the same problem. I installed a program called FX Video Converter and suddenly TMPEG will open wmv files. Just guessing it intalled codecs TMPEG needed.

  8. Seem to be lotrs of trouble with WMV in tmpgenc. It opened WMV for me some years back, no idea what version i used, but the audio was desynced so i used Blaze Media Pro instead. Anyway, i got a very good advice from someone here, use Windows Movie Maker to save the WMV to DV Avi, nice workaround.

Well if it's not porn, forget it. :P

Seriously, follow thor300's advice. Open the wmv with Windows Movie Maker and save as DV AVI. TMPGEnc should be able to open that.
