  3. ok.. followed the guide and it converted to mpg using tmpgenc and it worked ... yeah... my only concern is that when setting the size in tmpgenc, i set it to 4 gb (approx 98%).. however the final file was 1.9 gb.. i ran it again, just to make sure it was correct and it came out as 1.9 gb.. any ideas why?

Try plugging in the bitrate manually by not using the wizard mode. You can still load the DVD template by clicking "load" in the lower right corner of the main screen. Figure out the correct bitrate using the DVDRhelp Bitrate Calculator. Once you have the bitrate, click on the setting button in TMPGEnc to change the value.

Could also be the infamous TMPGEnc bug/undocumentet(?)feature with VBR audio, where the calculations on bit rate gets thrown off completely by VBR audio in an AVI. Solve this by extracting audio from (DivX in this case) AVI with VirtualDub and convert to wav. Use wav as audio source when encoding.
