  1. I have an NTSC DVD player but PAL (S)VCDs are compatible. PAL's resolution is higher, so I'm guessing that when I play them, the quality will be better as well, am I right?

I'm the kind of guy who doesn't care how many CDs are spent, as long as the quality is DVD-most. So what do you suggest, I use PAL or NTSC? Will the image be stretched if I play PAL on my NTSC DVD player or will the player adjust it to be original resolution?

  2. If you're talking about purchasing DVD/SVCDs, pick PAL if available.

If you're talking about converting to DVD/SVCD, use NTSC if the source is NTSC. PAL if the source is PAL.

PAL has higher resolution at the expense of framerate. It'll be less smooth in high action scenes. Neither is better - just different.

  4. PAL is vastly superior to NTSC, but you will see no benefit if the original source is NTSC. If you are able to record on a PAL camcorder and then convert to a PAL DVD, you will have much better pictures (resolution / colour) than a similar NTSC recording.

Thx. My source is NTSC. What I usually encode is anime (always NTSC).

And I forgot that PAL's framerate was bad, so in other words, if I had remembered that when posting this topic, I would have cancelled!

Thanks to all of you who helped.
