  1. Ok I had this working but I upgraded my TMPGE and DIVX codec. All my settings reset and I forgot how I fixed it. Iv'e searched the forums and can't seem to find the answer.

    The problem is:

I am encoding from a 350meg AVI to MPEG. Unfortunatly it wants to make the output file 103% of a DVD.

As I want to put 3 of these AVI's onto one DVD it's a problem.

I should be able to make the file 33% of a DVD-R (about a 1.4gig MPEG) at about 3000 kbits/sec bitrate. I've done this many times before so I know it's no issue.

The thing is at the moment it's giving me no option, just the huge file at 103%. If I remember correctly it's something to do in the environmental settings, but for the life of me I can not work out what it is.

Don't use the wizard and configure the bitrate manually. Use the DVDRhelp Bitrate Calculator to find the exact bitrate for your desired output size.

Agreed, but also check the avi file for VBR audio. Open it in vdub and see if it gives a warning about VBR audio. If so save the audio as an uncompressed wav using vdub->audio->Full processing. Then use that wav file as the audio input when encoding.

Excellent point. I'm sure you're right about the avi having VBR audio.

    Hi cazna,

You might want to try my tool DIKO:
    http://kvcd.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=79

It does DivX to DVD conversion in a completelly automated way, and can even burn the DVD with the movies in the end of the process. Just select your AVIs and come back later to get your already burned DVD.

It may be as simple as loading the unlock template so you can alter the bitrate to whatever you require.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. I'll look into the audio side of things now.

    However

It may not be the very best way to do it, but I previously used the wizard and it all worked out good enough.

Just set it at whatever % I wanted and as long as I was happy with the bitrate it all worked.

As I am sure anybody reading this has felt, it just bugs me no end that I can't find the same solution again.

All avi's are not created equal. You're going to run into problems from time to time no matter what.

So what is wrong with doing this now ? Does it not work ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  10. I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to spread the joy around here it is.

If you go to "DivX decoder configeration utility" (this is part of the DivX codec)

    Choose the "Quality settings" tab

    Then UNTICK "Overlay extended mode"

Problem solved and it all works a treat.

I'm so happy I could burst

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but whatever works. :P

  12. Yup no sense at all, but it does work.

Thus I can use the wizard if I wish, and I dont have to do anything to the audio or use any calculators or anything.

I'm sure some killjoy will reply that by unticking that box it gives you cancer or something.

But for right here and now I'm tickled pink.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to offer their assistance and help.

I'm not trying to jinx you or anything, but I'd be interested to know if your completed mpeg comes out ok. Please post again if all goes well.

So if I've read this thread correctly, TMPGEnc can have "restrictions" placed on its output by a codec it uses when it decodes the video stream ?

    Very strange/interesting.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Well I encoded 3 AVI's over night and everything came out perfectly.

So I guess the short version is ..... Yes, everything went well
