  1. I don't mind people using free guides as part of providing others with information on their own experiences, but ripping it off and charging for it!!!!!???? It really is about time we started throwing the GPL LEGALLY at some of these stupid commercial organisations. This is YOUR intellectual property that you have chosen to be freely available for the benefit of others.

Keep on with the good job regardless.

I myself would be trying to milk all these VCD making bastards for all there worth LOL! but alas im a lazy son of a bitch who spends all his time spending money on new computer and video equipment to feed the hobby monster that leaves below the stairs.
Ok - you got me - i dont know anything - you happy now!

  4. To Everyone:

I have decided to keep working on the guide, so expect a complete upgrade to it, for all the new programs out there, there will also be a downloadable version of the guide which i'm working on, but unlike all those pathetic ebook ripoffs, mine will be completly different, and much easier to use.

That standalone version MAY be a 10$ donation, i won't force you to buy it, but i'd appriciate that if you are gonna spend your money, it will atleast be to those who did the hard work, and not for those who rip it off.

I'd like to hear any comments anyone has on this subject, and what are your opinions on what i'm planning.

  5. Hello Again,

First allow me to apologise for my absence from the board, i'm going through a rough time at the moment, those who know me personaly know the reasons.

For now i'd like to say a few things:
    1) I Apologise for all those waiting for my email reply (over 60 of them) I've not had the chance or the time, but I have not deleted any emails, and I will reply as soon as I have more free time
    2) I'm currently in what little spare time I have, am working on updating the guide again, and i'll hopefully manage to outdue myself, as alot of people seem to still prefer the old style of the guide, i'll see what I can do to aim in that direction, and also make it not heavy on bandwidth.
    3) I've also been requested to do some AVI to VCD conversion guide, so i've given it some thought, and i'll try with something simple, this will not be one of those advanced guides, just a basic how to, similiar to the Classical Guide, and it will be combined to the Backup Guide in some way
    4) If anyone would like to translate the guide to another language, please let me know, I don't have the time or the knowledge in languages to do it myself, there was someone that said he will translate it to German, but he never came back to me after I gave him the guide.
    5) I Might start working for HP/Compaq next month, so i'll propably even have less free time on my hand the first month, but we'll see how things go, if I have the time, expect the new guide soon.

Again, my apologies to all those waiting for a reply in the email, i'm afraid it will take some time till I manage to get down to it again.

  6. It's been awhile since my last post here, so here are a couple of updates:

    1) As i've mentioned, i'm going through a rough time right now, it's nearly 2 months i'm out of a job, situation is difficult in Israel right now, so i'm more doing a hunt for jobs then being on the forum.

    2) I Have recieved all the emails, I apologise for not being able to reply them all, when I have the time, I will reply to everything, god knows i've got over 60 or 80 emails waiting, they have been recieved and will be answered when I have more time.

    3) Regarding the DVD Backup/CDWriters Guides, they will also be updates, as I am planning a PC upgrade, i'm currently out of space to even rip a movie, as soon as everything smooths out, i'll upgrade both using everything latest out there like you all know me to do.

    4) As i've mentioned before, if anyone wishes to Translate the guide, just let me know, and i'll send you a ZIP file of the entire guide, i'm sure other language speaking people would appriciate it.

    5) DNS2Go has decided to start charging, so i've pre-prepared alternate addresses, so if anyone is linked to my page, here are the two alternates:
    http://sefy.ods.org
    http://sefy.homedns.org

Please update, cause on October 1st the http://www.sefy.dns2go.com will no longer be accessible.

    6) Is there any webpage designer out there willing to help me improve the layout and design of the guide ? i'll appriciate any help I can get, i'm not a web designer, I don't have a clue about it, so please let me know, but do remember, for free, I can't afford to pay anyone, the maximum I can do is give you the credit you deserve.

That's all for now, and again, my apologies for not being able to answer all emails or update the guide at this time.

  7. News Flash!

    1) As some of you know, I haven't been posting as much as I did in the past, i'm still currently without a job for 3 months, so I am afraid I can't concentrate much on helping others.

    2) lots of you are waiting for email replies, please avoid contacting me, as I cannot say when I will answer, my apologies in advance.

    3) The DVD Backup Guide will be updated, but not anytime soon, however, ive already updated the CD/DVD-ReWriters Comparison, and it should be on VCDhelp soon, in the meantime you can access it through my homepage.

    4) Again, if anyone wishes to help out on the Guide or the CDRW list, please let me know, or it would take loads of time for me to update it again.

    5) As i've mentioned last time, my homepage is no longer being used with DNS2Go, but I have 3 other alternatives which are already working, they are:
    http://www.sefy.dtdns.net
    http://sefy.homedns.org
    http://sefy.dynup.net

    6) Those who saw the homepage before will notice there is a change, but if anyone can offer help in designing my webpage, i'd be very appriciative, HTML is NOT my speciality.

I Hope this keeps everyone updated on the current situation, and again my apologies to those who have emailed me and waiting for replies.

  8. More Updates!

I've started working on updating the guides as some of you may know,
the changes will of course show up on my homepage first, when i'm done,
it will be uploaded to all the supporting webpages.

There are many updates because of all the new versions of the programs,
it will also effect the Classical Guide, and so it will match in versions, they
are now currently both v2.1, there is also a v3.0 of the Complete Guide
    under way.

A big help from Adam who I owe special thanks for agreeing to
assist me, the major new parts of the v3.0 Guide, will be a whole new
look which both me and Adam agreed would be easier for beginers, and
Adam is the one who will show you how to create Menus using the same
movie as in the guide, so it will be much easier to follow!

Here are the programs that has been updated and their status:
    + ChapterXtractor 0.962 - Done
    + DVD Decryptor 3.1.4 - Done
    + DVD2AVI 1.77.3 - Done
    + VFAPI Reader Codec 1.05 - Done
    + DVDx 2.0 - Done
    + FlaskMPEG 0.78.39 - Done

    - MPEG Mediator 1.5
    - Panasonic MPEG2&1 Encoder
    - VCDEasy v1.1.3
    - VCDwizard 2.6.0.0
    - NTI CD Maker 6
    - BlindWrite Suite 4.2.8

As progress seems to go rather well, I may actually have v2.1 of both the
guides released on January 1st 2003, I am of course hoping to hear any
comments from users, and I will do my best to put it into the guide.

Those who wish to check and maybe report "bugs" in the new guides, can
    check them at these addresses:
    Complete Guide v2.1 - http://www.sefy.dtdns.net/main_frames.htm
    Classical Guide v2.1 - http://www.sefy.dtdns.net/ClassicalGuide.html

Do remember, these are still work in progress! just the sections with the
mentioned programs will have changed images and text.

  9. Final News!

The current v2.1 of the Guide has been finished, i've added Eazy VCD v1.14e
at the last minute, also working on DVD2SVCD, but i'm having some problem
at the moment, so it wasn't included in the current v2.1

The Guide has been zipped and email was send to all 8 supporting places on
the web, so you should see a January 1st 2003 release as planned!

By the way, it would be nice to know i'm not talking to myself

    Sections 1e - 1h of DVD2AVI

I noticed this on some of the other sites hosting your guide as well. In fact, I think Kwag's was the only one where I could see the images in those sections.

  20. That's interesting - cleared cache and those 4 images are still not loading on any of the websites hosting it.

I even tried just now on my wife's computer and same thing !

the only thing that changed on our systems was installing Norton SystemWorks.

  21. Those images do come up when I go to the backup guide and navigate to the DVD2AVI section !

Just tried using Mozilla browser and same thing.

Difference in classical and backup guides are classical looking for D: drive for those 4 images and backup guide using images from vcdhelp\sefy\images folder.

  23. Urgent Information

I've added a "Make a Donation" into my Guide, I was wondering what you
the users, think of it ?

As you know, doing the guide and keeping it updated with all the latest of
the programs, is not an easy task, and it takes alot of time to do.

i'm not forcing anyone to pay of course, the guide is always free of access
to everyone, this is just a donation, and after that incident with someone
else selling my guide, I wanted to know what you feel about it.

if it's ok, i'll upload the added button to the rest of the supporting
webpages, with some hope they agree to it too.

I'm looking forward to hearing, in the meantime, it will just be on my page.

  24. I am extremly disappointed at you guys, i've worked hard at trying to do
all the updates to the guide which alot of you personaly and specificly
asked me I even added another program, and I even thought of working
    on dvd2svcd.

But I really don't see any point, I never get any replies, i'm not even
asking a thank you, I just want to know your opinions, bad or good, so I
could have improved, I had high plans for the guide, I give my personal
time which at the moment I don't really have, and except ny888 which
helped track bugs, nothing. no one else!

I just don't know what to say anymore, I write both the DVD Backup
Guide and the CD/DVD RW chart, I answer as many emails as I can, and
not any of you has bothered answering.

I'm putting the v3.0 of the guide on hold till I decide what to do, maybe i'll
move it on to someone elses hands, I don't know, but i'm hurt, insulted,
deeply offended and very disappointed from you, over 44141 users on a
forum, and 1 took the time to answer and help.

  26. kwag, you are a guide host, not a guide user, in order for the guide to be
good, it depends on it's users, and as you can see, it's been a few good
hours, and yet not a single user has posted any reply of any kind in interest.

What the point of me writing the guide ? I keep getting the same type of
questions in the emaial, it's like either no one uses the guide, or no one even
reads what I write in it, and if here are problems, people just complain and
    not report them.

The guide is huge now, takes me alot of time to get it all updated, you who
have a website knows how hard it is to keep things updated, so you know
how I feel, i'm seriously considering quitting the guide.

but with any luck he will keep going on the Complete Guide as well.

Right now it's being hosted on my page, but i'm hoping there will be others

Hey Sefy, let me be the first, after Kwag, from the site to thank you then. I printed out your updated guide about a week and a half ago! Unfortunately have not got to use the newly added guide for the newer version of DVD Decryptor, I have been waiting for that since I could not get the older version in the old guide to work! I believe it was 2.0.0.13 or 3.0.0.13 (I dont have my old printout handy so please dont laugh) Needed it for one movie that smartripper would work on.

I dont see any reason why you should not ask for a little donation. I am learning all this information on how to make back-up copy's of my dvd collection at the expense of others, as so are others here, and I truely appreciate it. That is why the site is here right? To help those that dont know or dont have the time to sit at the computer for hours upon hours to figure it out!

By the way Sef, your guide was the first one that I followed and worked to the "T". Now thanks to Kwag, I am tryin to learn avisynth to get an entire movie on one cd. Thanks to the both of you!

If you want a donation I would be glad to donate!
Fun in the sun, Oh no my friend, Fun on the sun!

  29. Thank you KingSeti! that is very much appriciated! and I am very glad to
hear you found the guide usefull to your needs, and I also hope the
updated guide will be usefull for you as well!

I'm not forcing anyone to donate, as you see, I will always keep the guide
as free as the wind (i'm not charging for air costs like cellular phones )
but I would appriciate if people donate.

See I'm out of a job for the past 6 months now, I need to pay for the net
and not to mention other bills, so it would really help out, since 1$= 5nis of
my currency, even a small donation will be alot for me.

And as long as I can keep working on the guide (which I won't be able to
do if I can't be online) everyone will enefit, I had so much plans for it, you
can even ask Adam, he is helping me out, I even figured once I have
enough to pay my own bills, some of those donations will go to other
webhosts and authors, after all, fair is fair, i'm not a leech.

Lastly, if I see my work on the guide is appriciated, I will be somewhat
more encouraged to keep working on it, people seem to forget the guide
isn't the only help I provide, i've also given my email, and I try my best
to answer everyone, i've already answered over 4000 emails, and each
day more and more comes through, that is alot of time and effort which
I give to each individual, and yet i'm not forcing anyone to pay.

If you really would like to donate, again, it would be very much welcomed!
some pages included my donation addon on the guide, such as Kwag for
example, and MPEGnews and others, you can always find the most update
part of the guide on my own homepage here:
    http://www.sefy.dtdns.net/main_frames.htm

Anyone who donates, i'll add their name(or nick) and the amount (if they
allow me) to the table in the donations on the guide, anything is welcomed

  30. Minor Guide Updates
A Few Changes in the Guide:

    - latest VCDEasy 1.1.4 images which effect both Classical and Complete
    Guide

    - Korean Language Translation! has been done to the Classical Guide, it of
course uses the same images as the regular Classical Guide, and only
Korean enabled PC's can actually view the fonts on that page, feel free to
add it if you like, page will have the name of: ClassicalGuide-kr

    - Added the latest CDReWriter Guide as well, it's not really updates to this
latest date, but it is updated for January atleast, i'll try doing a new update
for Februrary if I get the time.

    - I've Added a Counter into the guide (atleast on my page) ever since i've
added it, i've had over 400 visits to the guide, I don't know how many of
the supported homepage will include it, but it would be cool if some do!

These changes to the guide will take time to appear on each supported
page, but you can of course view them immediatly on my homepage, but
there are lots of downtimes and it's my own PC, so expect slow downs too
    http://www.sefy.dtdns.net/main_frames.htm

Even though I get like one comment, I would still appriciate to hear what
people have to say, because no one bothered to comment on anything, I
have put the work on the Guide v3.0 on hold till further notice.
