  1. What programs on the Mac will allow me to author Mpeg 1 video files to DVD without converting them to Mpeg 2?

  2. I believe you can do this with the latest version of Toast. If you add MPEG-1 video files to your DVD, they should not be recompressed. But, I think if you have MPEG-1 audio at the wrong rate then that will be reconverted to the 48kHz DVD rate and burned as PCM.

    I use ffmpegX to do this.
    It has a built in tool that will convert an mpeg, a folder full of mpegs or a .bin image and finish up with video_ts for burning
    or
    if you want to author the dvd in dvdsp or whatever,
    demux the mpeg1;
    Convert the audio to 48khz AC3
    then you can build the dvd using the elementary m1v and ac3 files.

    this is pretty cool because you can fit about 7 hours on 1 dvd.

    good luck.

  5. Thanks for all the replys...

    I have tried toast but I seem to have sync problems between the audio and video...These weren't in the original Mpeg files...

    Would it help if I demuxed the Mpegs and converted the audio to 48khz instead of the standard 44.1khz of the originals remultiplexed and then added it to toast to be authored?

    I have tested sizzle as well and it seems to work without the sync problems. The only issue with sizzle I have is that a simple navigation menu (like toasts) is not automatically constructed when you add titles.

    Have many people tried playing an Mpeg 1 DVD on standard DVD players...I was just wondering if it would work on the majority of players (it works on mine but will it work on a friends).
