I've just bought a new PC (Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading Tech, 800 MHz Front Side Bus - at least that's what I'm told) which came with Pioneer DVD/CD Re-Writer (+-R, +-RW). Heaps of memory and hard disk space so no problem there. Using Windows XP. Problem is when I tried to do a back-up of one of my original Hindi DVDs using DVDShrink on a DVD-(minus) disk (Princo), it seemed to copy ok and certainly plays alright on the PC. But when I try to play it on my standalone DVD player (Palsonic 3000), it says "Data Error". I've tried changing from Pal to NTSC, vice-versa and even keeping both options on but still no luck.

Wondering if someone can tell me if it's a disk problem, DVD-player problem or something else. And what I need to do to overcome the problem.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. My guess is the media is the problem...Princo sucks.
Is this the first Princo disc you have used or have others played fine? It's possible that you just had a bad disc.
Check the DVD Players and DVD Media sections to the left and see what others have to say.

I bought my PC just the other day and I'm new in the DVD-copy area. That was my second copied disk. The first one was also Princo DVD, played ok in my Palsonic DVD player, played up the second time, and played ok again when I changed from PAL to NTSC (or could have been other way round).

So any useful hints about DVD-copy generally would be greatly appreciated, e.g. media to use/avoid, program to use/avoid, etc.

Come to think of it, my DVD player may have displayed "Disk Error" rather than "Data Error", but I'm not overly sure.

Maybe you ought to confirm which one it was. Either way, I think the media is the problem too.

Definitely says "Disk Error", not "Data Error".

Bought a cheap DVD-player the other day and my worst fears were confirmed - this one can do more than the more expensive one. No problem playing the Princo -R DVD on the new player.

So it really was my "old" standalone DVD-player that had problems recognising -R DVDs. Oh well, it still has the karaoke function that I can utilise...
